It’s barely a union. More like a special interest group

Google employees are given considerable pay and stock awards, 3 meals per day, and free gym facilities in every office. What are they looking to bargain over?

Mainly around Google’s involvement with government contracts and other ethically tricky areas

I’ve read how terrible the working conditions at Google are. These people are so brave

Unions need the following to work: (1) Size - A union needs to represent a significant majority or a totality of the workforce to be able to exert leverage in CBA otherwise they gonna be out (2) Irreplaceability - Unionised employees need to be hard to replace, typically this is achieved by (1) and by external factors like geography or skills. E.g. if everyone in the town works at the steel factory and they unionize its going to be tough to get non-union people (no other workers) OR like the NFLPA - very few people can do the job (3) Separate & Equal Parties - There needs to be a clear difference between the two sides with both being essential e.g. management & workers or players & owners that prevents or makes it v hard for members of one group to become members of the other group and ensures that they need to work together None of these are a typical feature of a white collar workforce so unlikely that this will spread. Any smart company will either leverage (2) by replacing union with non-union people or (3) by promoting the trouble makers before (1) happens.

People need to post articles instead of screenshots. But now since nobody read the article nobody is going to know that it's actually about the ethics of the company in general, not about pay and working conditions.

Are teachers not white collar?

like

Special case (like nurses) they are very hard to replace and there is a major shortage. They are also directly competing against an equally powerful group - in most cases local government (or healthcare networks for nurses)

Solidarity forever. The union keeps us strong!

I knew a colleague last year that had to call on their union lawyer and make a case. I don't remember the details, but I know that they were glad they joined the union in the first place.

Are any other teachers told to be at work before you start getting paid? We don’t get paid until 7:45. Every week we are told to be there earlier and earlier. It is now to 7:10 and staying until 4pm. We stop getting paid at 3:15. Does anyone else have this problem ?

I'm one of 3 learning strategists at my school. However, I'm the MAIN strategist that cover for absent teachers. I just finished taking over a grade until it was filled with a new teacher. Admin works closely with the other 2. I'm not included in any school data/presentation to help the new teachers on staff. I believe the other strategists are working against me. They are assigned classes when I'm not available. The union says it's at the principal's discretion. What would you do?

Who would you want to include in your union? Which levels would be exempt? E-suite? G-suite? Directors aren't managers—or are yours? Who makes final decisions and who has to just live with them?

I just received a job offer for a position that better aligns with my skills and education. It’s also something I want to do and would get me out of banking, so to speak. The proposed salary offer is only 10% more than what I am making now, though. I currently have a fully remote job and have tons of free time and flexibility. I love my current job as it affords me time with my kids and it’s stress free. The new job is in an office setting and will have more responsibility. Not sure what to do?
