Mashallah thats dope
Identity is self-defined. You can choose to not define your identity with your faith, D1, but that absolutely doesn't mean that someone who does is wrong or an extremist. Identity is multifaceted - it's not an either or. So many people around the world identify with their faith(s), as well as their ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, occupation, personality, hobbies, etc. For you, being American may be the only identifier. But for many people, being American is one part of a much more nuanced and involved identity.
Being muslim is not an identity, it is a faith. This is ridiculous
What kind of crap is this? How does it even matter
Out of curiosity, how did you come up with that metric?
D3 We have a partner list that came out today and three of the names were straight up Muslim.
D1 why does it not matter? It's the success of fellow Muslims in a workspace where we are super minorities. I don't know about you, but the ability to not only break it in and then make it at the highest rank is commendable.
D1 ko Roza lag Gaya hai. Lol
Plenty of people with Muslim names don't identify with the Muslim faith. It's dumb to make those assumptions and stereotype based a name they had zero input in. Also there's plenty that identify culturally or politically as a Muslim, it's not always faith based.
It's as dumb to feel happy because three Muslim names show up on a promotion list as it is to feel guilty because three Muslim names show up in the headlines for terrorism. It has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, your faith or you.
The objectivity in this post is phenomenal. "It's dumb" to feel xyz way. Who made you God man? Let people feel how they want to feel. Calling someone dumb for feeling a certain way is dumb IMO.
Funny. I read that list and didn't even notice. U sure you weren't looking at the Global partner list?
Sorry Op you are bsing now. You specifically mentioned partners with a muslim name so why the hogwash of anyone doing well? Get outside of your stupid religious lens. Just because someone is muslim doesn't make them special or any less , we are more than just that
Leggoo. That Ramadan barakah lol
American?
You sound like an extremist OP
I sound like an extremist because I identify as a Muslim as well as an American?
If you didn't identify as Muslim you wouldn't be in this group. So I dunno what the issue is, when I am happy for a fellow Muslim for making it. Maybe it's the immigrant in me that doesn't take success for granted. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'd also like to add to the non-exhaustive list: race, gender, socioeconomic status, political and social beliefs, education, geography, etc. etc.
On this posts note, that is amazing! It's always amazing to hear about partner promotions generally, but when they also come from backgrounds important to you, your cheerleader self comes out more 🎉🎉
See, I identify as a Muslim, someone of Indian origin , someone from so and so town or city. The events that happen within these different spheres that I identify myself stir different emotions in me. If you don't identify with something and are neutral to it, that's up to you.
But don't tell me what to feel
Even if they're not Muslim and have Muslim names, it doesn't take away from the incredible accomplishment.
Take Aziz Ansari as an example of somebody that has a Muslim name but is an atheist. I still root for the dude because I know how hard it was for him to be where he is as a brown American with a Muslim name.
This post was never about Islam alone. It was about acknowledging those three people's hard work and their accomplishment as a super visible minority that's going through a hard time. If you can't be happy about that or appreciate the reason behind our praise then you're entitled to that. But don't call others dumb or ridiculous for realizing how much harder those partners had to work to get where they are, with the names that they have, in post 9/11 America.
