Currently I work for a mid-sized InsureTech that’s had 2 rounds of layoffs in the past 6 months. Salary is 100k, with no defined bonus. I have close to 4 years of PO experience. I am debating whether I want to leave since my boss is very chill and I have amazing WLB. Benefits are eh. 15 PTO days and healthcare premiums are okay. Should I jump ship? What could I be making at a bigger company? What types of companies are most stable right now?

I'm a retail employee, and I've noticed that a lot of my colleagues are really stressed out. They're often working long hours, and they don't feel like they can take time off when they need it. I'm worried about my own mental health. Is this what all retail is like?

Other than higher pay (I didn’t become a lawyer to get rich 🤣) what is the benefit of working for BigLaw, or private practice in general? As a government lawyer, I make 6 figures, have excellent benefits, no billable hours requirements, more time off than I know what to do with (including mental health days), a pension, a 401(K), option to chose whether to WFH or not, no weekend work, no working before 8am or after 5pm. It seems like so many lawyers in private practice are unhappy.

Went on Vacation and company owner freaked out that I’m away when there are some important deals going on. Ironically hes away this week too. Theres not much going on for me to do while away just some minor follow ups, but has anyone ever experienced this before? Howd you handle? I think hes just being ridiculous but was it wrong of me to go away? This trip had been planned for a while. Just have anxiety now.

Just had a very uncomfortable conversation with a partner. I have some time off booked to go to my brother’s wedding (I’m the best man). We were chatting and I mentioned that my brother’s future husband is so nice and really a great guy, and we already consider him a member of our family. Partner’s tone immediately shifts and as we’re ending the call he says, “Okay, enjoy the time with your family at the civil ceremony.” Like… girl you live in California, you cannot be this backward.

Just need to vent - I joined a firm last year that is so, so, so, busy. Like I know you typically get hired when things picked up, but I was handed files that needed immediate action despite them knowing I’d need training in this new area. I’m catching up and enjoy the work, but I am so tired from hitting the ground running. When can I take a vacation?

Currently in final rounds of interviews at two companies, and I believe I will get an offer from one of the companies in the next week or so. I want to put in my two week notice tomorrow as I have a week long trip in the middle of February that will eat away at my accrued PTO (which I want to get paid out). Thoughts on risking it?

Had a incident when my manager accidentally sent a message to me, talking crap about me for taking time off around the holidays, during a busy time (I’m a remote worker with 2 kids under 2). This message was intended for her boss. What should i even do about this? The culture is very unprofessional and I’m thinking about sending my laptop/equipment to the lobby first thing come Monday. Received a job offer today and unsure how to proceed. The role is lateral but with more opportunity to advance. The offer consists of a 17% base salary increase, a 25% annual bonus structure, and a signing bonus of 25% of my base. I feel that the offer is fair but the downside is fewer vacation days. I intend to negotiate the vacation time but as far as the compensation I am unsure if I should negotiate.. the offer is fair and I don't want to be greedy but I don't want to miss an opportunity

Has anyone gone from small real estate development company to big REIT? I’m being told that hours are the same (if not less) at the REIT, but I find it hard to believe. In my small company now, I frequently work after hours and take calls from the owner outside of normal business hours. The base salary is over $100k more than I currently make so I’m just wondering if it’s too good to be true.

I was fired for missing deadlines for 1. A response to a motion that hadn’t been filed (still hasn’t) 2. Writing a difficult petition in 24 hours after another associate took 6 days to submit a blank form. Both times deadline was missed by less than 2 hours, while hospitalized (I have a disability). He knew of the hospitalization and said “he didn’t care about the reason I needed more time.” He came to my hospital room to get the company computer and no other attorney was fired. Is this fair?
