And many industry positions are more toxic than public. Your blanket statement should be qualified quite a bit

I'm sure there are, but not as plentiful as public positions. After working on 100+ clients over my 4 years in public and being in private for a year, I've yet to run into a staff/senior accountant who had the miserable face of a burnt out auditor

Yeah I’m glad I did a year on industry before PA. Now I know the grass is not greener.

Did industry, was miserable (underpaid); went to public, was more miserable (toxic environment); went back to industry, am happy. I’m paid well, respected, and actually have work life balance. It’s definitely easier to be happy when you’re paid well, but it’s also easier to be happy when you’re not working 100 hour weeks. As much as I like industry, I definitely understand that some people do find good teams/firms, and genuinely enjoy where they are. Still couldn’t pay me enough to go back to public tho 🤷‍♂️

I had the opposite experience, I was fortunate to have 2 industry internships before public accounting and absolutely hated it. Worked with a lot of older people that didn’t want to coach young staff. People barely talked to each other and it felt like those stereotypical cubical accounting jobs you see in TV. I found both experiences dreadful, and if I wasn’t a broke college student I would have quit after a week. Not saying public accounting is perfect, but I don’t like to paint pictures that imply industry is some magical place. It’s for someone people but not for everyone.

I feel like PA is pretty good considering the growth, job security, and prestige.

I def disagree. TS I’d put higher than it imo.

Didn’t really enjoy industry at all. I switched to public and like it better.

The only time when the grass is greener is when I friggin retire. Started out in industry for a few months and absolutely hated it. While public accounting is a pain in the ass, at least the work is interesting and the coworkers are smart. In industry things can get stale real quick.

like

Lol had completely opposite experience. Interned and worked at few different industry companies. Was treated like garbage. But I'm F and immigrant, so I'm sure it's out of ordinary 😒

Every accounting firm is pretty much the same, but every company is different and there are some that are better than public and some that are worse

How do you handle attraction in the work place. During my summer internship I was really attracted to this girl I shared a office with. She was way out of my league so I didn't even attempt to ask her out or anything. Plus you don't hookup where you vlookup. During one of the days she wore a really short skirt and I got a bit aroused. Since my housing was really close, during lunch I went home and fixed the issue. How do you handle being aroused at work?
