First, congrats! That means they think you are capable of handling it! My suggestion would be to schedule weekly 15-20 min meetings with the partner so you can tell them what you have planned for the case for the week and they can let you know if there is anything else that should be on your radar. TAKE NOTES!!! And follow up with an email with action items that were discussed. It will help keep you organized and provide a little bit of cover with a demanding partner.

Calendar every known deadline on your own calendar! Make sure you’re up on what needs to be done and when any draft would need to be complete so the partner can have plenty of time to review. If there are other representative matters you can find, pull examples now so you can hit the ground running on whatever the partner wants you to draft

Seconding the congrats—this is a positive endorsement. If you’re not a list-maker, I’d start there. Write out every discrete task that’s due, and also set aside time every week (or more frequently) to think about upcoming tasks and anticipate he needs of the client and partner.

Everyone else has good tips. Here's one more: reach out to a mid-level who's not on the matter and just get their insight on anything else you should be doing, watching out for, etc.

Oh, so most of the recs above, mine included, come from a managing-up and CYA perspective. I assume you’ll also be leading juniors. There’s a new post with helpful tips on that here: https://joinfishbowl.com/post_9vf7sdr3n9

I have a holiday party with my group at work (small group of 20) and their plus ones. I invited the girl I'm seeing and she said yes. I want to bring her and show her off, and plus, she's a great conversationalist. We're seeing each other exclusively but haven't dtr'ed. I'm also new to this group so I haven't really come out to anyone yet because it hasn't come up in conversation. How would you introduce her? Are people gonna ask a bunch of questions if I just say "this is X?"
