Tips for negotiating a brand new car with a dealership? Any lessons learned?

don't ever let them steer the discussion to monthly payments. they'll always try that and if you go with it when you zoom out and calculate the overall you'll be paying way more. also right as you close they'll try to tack on add ons (like film, door protection, other random crap) and it'll be 2-3x what it's actually worth. use paying all cash as leverage and "threaten" to pay cash if they keep steering you towards discussing monthly payments. car salesmen are scummy.

Always go to multiple dealers rather than just one... it’s good to have them compete for the best price

^ this. First rule of negotiation is never take the first offer.

Yeah: 1) Don't buy a new car. Get a Certified Pre-Owned. A CPO is all the benefits of a new car with the biggest value loss already eaten by someone else and assurances it isn't a lemon. A CPO will retain its value and typically is was previously owned by someone who always jumps to the shiny new vehicle that drops. Source: direct advice from KBB staff 2) Price haggle the e-sales teams of multiple dealerships until you've gotten it down to where you want.

Don’t let them bully you. Your money, your choice and decide on your time.

Know the MSRP, the dealers asking price (often lower than MSRP) and then show up with your own financing (so you’re effectively paying cash). The dealer profit margin on a new car in the US is surprisingly low but that’s okay - there are usually holdbacks that ensure the dealer covers their expenses even if they sell at invoice. The invoice price varies by vehicle and dealer, so ask /nicely/ to see the invoice. If the car is an unpopular model you can negotiate down towards invoice. If it’s a popular model, getting a break off asking price or even MSRP is a win, because the dealer is likely willing to wait a few days for someone to come in who will pay more and doesn’t want to sell to cheap because they won’t be able to get another of that model in stock.

I would go through a broker if you want to save a bit of money but rather save the effort of having to negotiate with sketchy sales people. Otherwise I would just email or use something like edmunds to contact multiple dealers at once and just see who is offering the best price, and make them negotiate against each other

If you want a paint to sample Porsche it’ll be best to have a relationship with your local dealer. I’ve found that a monogamous relationship will also mean that you never pay over MSRP for special/GT models. Do share a picture of what you buy.

I'm 25 and I bought a luxury car a few months ago. Follow the steps below: 1. I'd buy a used car, cars depreciate too fast 2. Check your Fico Auto Score (not the same as your normal fuck score that you might see through Credit Karma 2. Get the actual value of the car through the Bluebook online 3. Check the maintenance records of the vehicle 4. Test drive the car at different dealerships 5. Have a mechanic inspect the car with you in person when you think you have doing the one 6. DO NOT EVER FINANCE THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP 7. Find a credit union or your own bank to get pre-approved for an auto loan (Credit Unions will give you the best interest rate) 8. Once you get approved, you will get a check with the amount requested, and at this point you can just go to the dealership with your check in hand and get out of there faster without feeling uncomfortable by annoying sales people.

They’re talking about taking a used car to a mechanic to get it checked. Be up front with the dealer and tell them you’d like to do that. If they are reputable and have nothing to hide with the car, they’ll allow it. If not, walk away.

Go into the dealership and look at name tags. Find a name tag with a number, pick the car you want. Call said name tag and inquire about the car. Float that another name tag at said dealership, but recall very vague details said they would get it to price 'x' and then see if called name tag will match or beat.

If you are with some larger firms (Accenture & IBM are two that I know of) you can get a supplier discount at many manufacturers. Either that or join Costco.

In UK act not interested (one of the tactics) and ALWAYS take finance from dealership... Why? I because they thrown in heavy subsidies and contribution towards the MRSP. In parallel obtain another finance and use that to settle the dealer finance. Probably won't work for the USA but in UK we can cancel any financial contract in 14 days of taking delivery of goods and for car finances we can settle them at any point in time without any additional penalty (interest needs to be paid o ly for the duration you held the loan). Hell we are so good that if you paid 50% of finance for a vehicle all you need to do is give them the keys and walk away.

Yesterday was a good day. I was really impressed with myself. I woke up at 5, practiced dance lessons, did two water colors, made breakfast and tea, got to work by 10, put in 8-10 hours of solid work and then came home. It’s been ages since I painted or danced. However today, I slept till 7:00, did not work out or have food. Still got to work by 10 and did 8 solid hours of work. Some days are good and some are just okay. And that is okay. Trying to build on my good days and we all can. :)

It's finally happened. I can feel that I have given up. The breaking point? My CD making a big deal out of having a call on Saturday at 1 pm to look over a deck that was due this morning. I rearrange my schedule. I move my kids piano lesson. I stay up until 2 the night before making sure everything is in line. He never calls. Doesn't respond to my text. I send him the deck and he doesn't respond until Sunday afternoon. Then gets pissy when I say I can't hop on the phone at that exact moment.

Two questions: 1) I’m pregnant with my first baby (16 weeks), any advice on when to disclose? 2) Does that timing advice change given our current COVID circumstances? I’d like to nip that talk in the bud and feel like a reasonable way to do that is to disclose. Thanks in advance for any thoughts?
