Join a LinkedIn Group aligned to your industry, so the moderators reviewing your request would be more likely to approve your membership once they see that you are actively in that industry.
When you get accepted into a LI and start scrolling through their members, you may be able to find industry-mates who are within your geographic region, or be an alumni-mate, etc.
When hitting the Connect button to the profile of someone you want to connect with, also choose the Add A Note option so you can type in a personalized invite to connect, like (use your own tone & words that match your authentic professional persona) “Hi (name), we’re the same LI Group (group name) or school, etc. so I was hoping we can connect. By the way /mention something interesting on their personal or company profile that caught your eye), Not selling anything, just expanding my professional network. You’re welcome to explore my connections too in case any of them may prove helpful to you as our careers progress. Cheers!”
Personalized notes show good faith that you’re not just a bot automating responses and you are respectfully reading about a person first before thoughtfully reaching out to them.
Be sincere also once you connect w/ a fellow professional online to follow their pages, react to post of theirs you honestly find relevant & helpful, etc.
Networking online also involves the same courtesies we use when we are networking in person, broadly speaking;)
What’s nice about networking online too is that birthday reminders and other milestones like new jobs and promotions are posted from your 1st degree connections, so you can greet & support each other too.
Have fun, do your due diligence on the people who are suitable for you to reach out to, & stay safe& professional always online as you expand your remote network of contacts.

Hi, I need your advise… I see lots of jobs as a Manager and lots of people getting hired with great salaries not much skills, however when I apply in getting automatic rejected emails and interviews that go nowhere. I think I’m the interviews they think I am lying of all what I do and current responsibilities and high number of direct reports. Should I tone down on my work and make my experience and actual job seem less than what I do to get interviews and more chances at a good opportunity?

TWO JOB OFFERS

1. Entry level role, 32k (loads of great benefits) hit it off with the hiring manager during screening call, she has been advocating for me internally, which led to an offer. She has said she’s keen to develop me, to get promoted in 6 months, which will result in salary increase (40k-50k)
2. entry/mid level, 70k (decent benefits package), team seem nice after 3 rounds of interviews, newly created role, they’ve said I can make it my own.

What would you do in my situation...
Take a job that is paying significant less than previous salary, potential good work environment & manager, but stuck in hometown I have been trying to leave for 3 years now, no real career growth unless I leave in a year
Take a job that is paying more ($30K more), confirmed potential boss is severely toxic, department has high turnover rates, finally would get to move to NYC which has been my goal, could potentially open doors..

Hey y'all! I'm about to start being a manager of a new temp to hire employee, and to be honest, I'm terrified I will either be a pushover or be over demanding due to how deadline driven the proposal writing process is and lack of the ability to say no to some people who bring the proposals to me to write. Do you have any advice on how to start learning to manage others? I currently mentor a few new grads to help them learn the basics of how to work in different sectors as a professional.
