When they say RTO is mandatory

As someone who’s been employed in this industry for a number of years - definitely don’t tell your job you’re interviewing. Whether you like them or not, you still have bills to pay.
Very true @c2. Just a mentor or two that are actually interested in helping you succeed.
^ for real?
Like “Hey, Boss. Going to be OOO for an hour today for an interview. Be back at 1."
I’m old school. Say you have dentist or doctor appt.
doctor appointment
furniture delivery
vet appointment
roommate emergency
neighbors flooded the living room have to go asap
family emergency
...
so many excuses... get creative 🙃
@cd1 and @mi1. The OP is an intern. Their employer already knows they won't be staying with the company forever. An internship is the perfect time to ask supervisors about the industry and ask for contacts at her agencies, especially if you know the internship isn't going to turn into a full time thing.
If you’re an intern just tell them you have interviews. They’ll understand if they’re not offering to put you on full time
Yeah, seconding this. If you’re an intern it’s a totally different game. They will be thrilled for you.
Say you have a dentist’s appointment. I always keep a new toothbrush in my backpack to prove it after coming back from an interview. Works every time
Take phone interviews in the stairwell. Schedule in person interviews during lunch. If you don't like where you work right now, straight up tell them that you're interviewing at other places.
Dude that is a sure way to get canned before you score another gig.
Book the least popular conference room.
"meeting with a vendor"
@bli1 that advice will get you canned, or laid off. It’s best to try to interview during lunch hours, ir just take personal time off, under the guise of “appt”. In person interviews are always better than phone.
Tell them the truth. You are an intern. You are not an employee. You owe them no loyalty. If you're useful, they may even offer you a position.
Dentist
Food poisoning works a charm. At my last interview, I even had it for reals! 🤣
Just go
This has already been said, but if you’re an intern you’ll be fine. Unless they’ve explicitly stated that they intend to offer you a full-time position, they should be fine with you interviewing elsewhere - if not encouraging you to. If you’re in a short-term contract position (essentially what an internship is) you can’t wait til one gig ends to start looking for the next.
If you’re concerned, talk with your immediate supervisor and ask where the road you’re on is going to lead with that company, and depending on what they say, I don’t think it’d hurt to mention you’re getting interest from other agencies.
Good luck!
Oh also if you decide to let people know, be sure to also say that it is your intent to stay where you are until the end of your internship. That way they don’t think you’re going to just up and bail. Whether or not you do stay if offered another gig - well, that’s up to you
Even interns should be careful not to burn bridges. There are many different types of internships plus you don’t know if the agency you are currently at is considering bringing you on FT. Be smart. Let your current place know you have an appointment, if they ask tell them it’s a family thing. Most places won’t pry when you say that.
