There’s a recent thread on here asking about resources for learning international. You can also do a search on here for past topics on international tax resources. A lot of people recommended International Tax in a Nutshell. Utilize your firm’s internal materials like Bloomberg BNA portfolios as well. Otherwise I think gaining hands on experience will help a lot.
External reading is a great way to get introduced. It will help you put together the big picture faster than whatever client work you’re on.
If you can get on some compliance projects those are great to learn some of the mechanical rules / calcs.
Aside from that, ask a lot of questions. You will feel like a fish out of water for a couple years. Just keep trying to learn in bite sized chunks. Unfortunately it just takes time. Good luck!

I made the exact jump from from another group to international as a senior, OP. I looked for every avenue to prepare myself but the best way was just jumping into the fire and the learning came with time. Working as a “staff” for a few months also helped a lot with learning to be a reviewer. Since IT is a very technical area, international tax in a nutshell is a good book to have on you when something is confusing.
