I use a local management company and I'm happy to pay their fee. I don't have the time or energy to manage on my own. Plus when something goes wrong, its nice to have a middle man to take me out of the line of fire

The first time booking discount that AirBnB suggested helped us (we just started in September) once the first reviews are good the booking kept rolling blew we are booked 2 months in advance

Does anyone have insight on how in the end profit ends up, mostly on the expense part of the equation. Wondering how much buying all the furniture, towels, decor, supplies etc balances out in the end for others
Depends on the market, marketability, desirability, size of the house, etc… too many variables in play to give a consistent estimate, but the properties that do well do VERY well.
