Document everything and establish boundaries
How to respectfully establish boundaries? This has been going on for over a year now, b/c I wanted to assume the best, but I’m at my wits end
Two things I did that helped me in these situations. 1) I establish clear roles and responsibilities up front, 2) give him just-in-time feedback. We work with so many type As in rapid pace environment, I’ve learned most people don’t have the self-awareness to stop and think about what they are doing wrong. If he’s not willing to take feedback and correct his behaviors, I’d get the project leadership involved.
Hi OP! I think my personality (some may call abrasive/direct...) helped me navigate these kind of situations. It happened to me by a co-lead, who is a born to delegate anything and everything. If I was delegated by him to do some administrative tasks, I would respond to say something like “it seems that we need to discuss ancillary tasks that currently do not have owners assigned to them, such as this particular task. I am happy to take this on to get us started, but let’s discuss a path forward.” If he’s being a D about it (likely he would be), id honestly just say “let’s discuss this over the phone so we don’t make this a problem.” Good luck, OP!!
Story of my life. So done.
