I learned long ago that the best advice is not always the best advice. The best advice is the advice you client is most likely to act upon. For example; a Dr could tell a patient to quit chain smoking cold turkey and lose 100 lbs, or he can tell the patient to cut back to one pack a week and lose 10 lbs by their next appointment. I once wrote a fictional story about a client who insisted on hitting himself in the head with a brick every ten minutes. When I suggested that he stop he said that the last time he stopped he developed a terrible headache - so I obviously had no idea what I was talking about. So instead I recommended he get a softer brick...

vocally recognize their point of view, then illustrate yours with facts based evidence

I worked as a retail manager for 2 years and heard the dumbest stuff imaginable. I developed "be that as it may" as my way if saying "your point or arguement is irrelevant, and here is the reality. "

Just drop knowledge... If it's true they will appreciate it

Best tip is to inform you that you’re not always right, especially when you “know” you are

The best way is to use third party verification of what you are telling clients. I’ve written a number of books advisors use to support their positions/recommendations. The advise will give a client one of my books and I’m the one telling them they are wrong and the advisor is right. If you want to read some of my books go to www.roccy.org.

Hey Googlers, I’m going in for my GCP TAM second round on Monday and had a few QQs for you all: 1. For the RRK2 case study if there is a scenario for handling peak time workloads where the client did a lift & shift of a monolithic architecture, is the best suggestion to move them to micro services to enable serverless and auto scaling features? 2. I was told that they’ll give me 15 mins to prep after the case study is shared live, would you suggest I build a 1 pager or is that not required?Google

Partners. Were there stages in your career (Analyst, Consultant, Manager, etc) where you felt things weren’t clicking and that maybe consulting wasn’t for you? What did you do to get over the hump and still find a way to Partner? To be specific, I’m currently a C looking to make manager in a year, and there are manager level responsibilities that I’m struggling to execute proficiently (e.g., asking the right questions to the client, driving work with little guidance, etc)

Since George Floyd's murder and the sudden Corporate America "wokeness," I (black guy) have been routinely contacted by unacquainted Partners who explicitly state something to the effect "Client X wants diversity, so we'd like you on this deal..." It really comes across as tone deaf and completely patronizing. I appreciate the efforts to diversity (albeit forced), but Partners really need to learn how to not be so supercilious in the approach. You don't have to overtly state that I'm the quota.

I’m on a really difficult project. The other consultants on my team say it’s the most difficult they’ve had in their careers. I’m a new hire and I’m confident that none of my peers have any idea what I’m going through. It’s been really tough. I’m a really strong person but I can’t help but feel unmotivated and defeated. Feeling worn out already.

I'm a Registered Nurse who's been working as a sales professional for the last 11yrs. Ironically, none of the sales jobs I've been recruited for have been in healthcare. They've all been in the industrial setting (O&G, Chemicals, etc). I just moved across the country for my husband's job, and the new job I found is terrible. I'm looking to get back to my roots in healthcare and apply my sales experience to that sector, but I'm not getting any calls back for this sector. What am I doing wrong?
