1) Type it, walk away (take a break), review with fresh eyes.
2) Ask someone else to review it. Preferably someone unfamiliar with it.
3) Spell check a million times

I have a colleague that has a 1 min send delay on outlook. I guess that would help with the "I do my best proofreading after I hit send" feeling




Removing passive sentences leads to the largest writing quality gains


For basic proofing/catching typos, read the copy backward. Old trick of professional proofreaders.


Read a lot, especially in the category you are working on to get a feel for how the pros do it.

Then write a lot. Learn what your biggest mistakes are and rewrite to improve them.

I'm above average - but it's getting it to that next level is the challenge.

I also read out loud/whisper to myself. Always try to make your sentences as concise as possible.

Any in-house recruiters…recruiting? :) I am not 100% sure I want to move, but exploring. I am effectively a 4th year corporate/cap markets associate (2014 grad/2019 bar admission - I did not take the bar immediately after law school) with a finance undergrad and currently doing an MBA. I worked on very very related work for 5 years after law school and before taking the bar and worked 5 years prior to law school. I’ve got experience doing public and private offerings, SEC, M&A, gen corp.
