Tips on job hunting while pregnant? I’m currently 17 weeks and I’m not happy at my job. I was thinking of waiting it out and just start my search after probably a few months after the baby is born just to get comfortable with motherhood and going back to work since my leave is only 6 weeks. Has anyone else had this experience?

I switched jobs when I was about 20 weeks. I was already mildly showing in my interview, but I didn't mention it and she didn't either (probably for legal reasons). Shortly after I started the job, I let my manager know I was expecting and gave an estimate of around when my maternity leave would be. It went smoothly - not sure if it was because my manager was a young mother as well - but I was relieved. I am definitely glad I went ahead and made the leap before I had my daughter, because I was miserable in my old job and I would have had a really hard time coming back after my maternity leave ended. I'd say go for it now rather than later.

I would wait until after the baby is born. You probably don't need the chaos of a job transition on top of everything that comes with being a new parent.

I recommend being upfront during interviews. You will need to know the company’s leave policies. FMLA doesn’t protect your job if you’ve been at the company for less than a year, so if the company doesn’t provide additional leave, your job would not be protected after you have the baby. My personal opinion would be to wait and get a new job after you have the baby.

I am in the same boat so curious to know as well.

I tried to move internally but policy prohibits movement prior to two years. My manager told me we can try after I return but at the same time they are anticipating lots of people to quit because they are getting higher offers, and to me that’s kind of crappy that they’d rather hire externally than move talent internally. So not really sure if I should stick it out until my mat leave or start looking.

Yes, the company policy is that to move up (ie. Associate to Senior Associate) you have to be with the firm for 2 years minimum. You basically don’t get any promotion until year two. I tried to see if I could move laterally or move up for a higher base salary but couldn’t do it due to this policy, even after they are losing employees left right and centre, they will not break policy to internally promote

It would be beneficial to you if you focus your energy on your delivery especially if it's your first-born. If ever you'd want to work regardless, you may want to try short-term projects that aren't demanding and allows you to manage your time.

Some companies offer 12 weeks parental leave with no tenure requirement to be eligible. I would look for companies who do that, and just confidently job search and interview without mentioning it until after you are hired.

Conversely, choose the less stressful option. I think reducing stress or keeping it at a minimum as much as possible while pregnant is the top priority.

Best of luck to you!

I was also going to mention company policies around Parental/Maternity leave. Please make sure wherever you go that you are eligible for some paid leave. Also, if the company offers STD make sure the benefit meets your weekly salary. Good luck to you!

I was promoted early this year from an assistant “hourly” role to a managerial “salary excempt” role, but my old job hasn’t been replaced and it’s been 5 months. It’s an unfair workload and assisting someone else takes up so much time that I can’t learn and develop in the managerial role. And I find myself constantly working overtime and not getting paid fairly, even with the pay raise I got when I was promoted. I want to send my employer an email saying they’re in violation of FLSA.

Any success stories or advice on transitioning from industry to public (Tax)? I have only worked in large MNCs and I have experience in international/fed/provision. I am really curious if I should entertain the possibility of taking a role with a public accounting firm (B4/GT/BDO) or if it is "naïve" to expect that working for a firm will meet my expectations for manageable hours and a reasonable (predictable) schedule.

Working at MBB with really good feedback so far and I think have a good chance of getting promoted and would make almost double my salary . But I’m burnt out and my health both physical and mental is a wreck due to the stress and lack of WLb. I may have a chance at exiting into a strategy role in tech but would I be crazy to do that in this current macro environment? I am definitely done with consulting but I feel like I’ll get burned if I leave into tech right now.

Just venting. My husband is so much into watching his tv show that he is not at all interested in planning the baby shower or even in making the registry. It just feels that I am doing everything right now and his priorities are just around watching his TV show. I get that he needs his me time but our baby shower is few weeks away and we have not sent out the invite yet, do not have the registry finalized (I cannot do it as he wants to be involved or will make changes over my selection). Contd…

Would you leave external audit for internal audit even if there is no base increased, just sign on bonus? Been having an awful year round busy season and I’m just done. I have heard from multiple sources that WLB is better.
