Which firm has the best dressed consultants?
McKinsey & Company McKinsey & Company been working here one year and received pretty positive feedback. Given the expectation for people of my tenure to transition to EM in a year or so, I can’t see myself staying due to the WLB as an EM. I’m 35 and have 2 young kids. Can it even be realistically done? Would love to stay but I don’t see a balance which would keep my family happy. What options do I have from there?

SAP implementation to MBB. Referrals help get the interview and then I focused on all the implementation skills that the team was lacking and how I could help unskill the team
EY3 you absolutely have to case and at the rate of demand, pretty much all cities are hiring
Apply to the one that best fits you and Bain & Company 1 may be able to tell if it makes sense to align city with industry interests as believe Bain pushes for more regional cases

Graduated in ‘19 from a non-target liberal arts school. Worked for 1 year in inside sales (cold calling) for a healthcare tech company. Worked for another year in staff aug doing reporting. Now I’m a strategy consultant at a T2 firm 👍

Referalls are completely overrated.
I had only one referral (McKinsey) and didn’t even get an interview, meanwhile I had interviews at BCG, Bain, OW, LEK, EYP, Deloitte, Kearney and some other boutiques just from a cold resume drop.
I attribute 90% of my success landing interviews to the way I wrote my resume and the name brand of the two firms I worked at (even though I wasn’t a consultant at them).
My case performance got better every time I interviewed, and I interviewed at ~13 different companies, all of the ones listed above. I didn’t do much prep I just backloaded my interviews so the ones I wanted most took place later and I had practiced the real thing leading up to it.
Referral.

If you’re still at Capgemini, you can always look to transfer to Invent and start your strategy consulting career there.
Not there anymore but was a thought while I was
Networking with people at MBB that went to the universities where I had degrees (I worked in public sector before I joined)
I got a referral from one of my boys working there. Went from IBM --> McK
What's MBB/T2?
MBB = McKinsey, Bain, BCG
T2 = Tier 2 consulting firms (Kearney, Oliver Wyman, etc.)
Network. Network like crazy. It’s awkward and weird to only want to reach out to people to get a referral but that is your best bet. Attend firm events and reach out to the people who hosted it, they will always connect you to the right people. Ask about the firm when you get an informational interview - and ask them to talk about people, culture, practices. They love talking about it.
My interview process went on for 7 months. I was working another job and spent 6 hours outside of that to get a job at a T2 firm. I had an interview with McKinsey and 4 T2 firms during that time.
All I can say is - keep at it and if there is one thing you can control, it is how you solve cases. Build that skill and network endlessly.
Hope this helps! Best of luck!
Networking and having documentation of your success.

Keep in mind, there is a lot of digital strategy work so as you network as others mentioned, go with the mindset that you can add value because of the battle scars you have/long nights implementing a technology
Hey OP! Im going from Cap to MBB. Feel free to dm :)
Referral gets you an interview. Case practice and good nerves get you an offer.
