Today you will internalize the value of partner’s time versus your own. 🙄 Do as asked, and hope that your support staff also supports you when you need them too.

I had to earn mine.
It’s simply not worth the partner’s time to hunt for a document when the associate is the one responsible for managing the DMS file. Just because they can easily complete tasks that associates, paralegals and support staff may do for them, it doesn’t mean they should. As you get more senior, you need to develop the skill of pushing work down and focusing your time on tasks that are difficult or impossible for those junior to you to accomplish, or else you’ll just be doing the same junior associate grunt work forever.
You realize partners literally own the business right? If you don’t like it then go somewhere else

Because I’m not logged in or in front of my computer.

Because your time = $$
Their time = $$$
You do it and the firm saves = $

OP, do you not understand how the real world works?
Same reason I ask my sec to print stuff or run redlines for me 🤷🏼♀️ Time cost benefit
Because good partners, who you want to work for, can be running 20 complex matters that pay for a lot of people's biglaw salary and benefits, and if they did everything like that themselves, they'd have to be on half as many matters and the pot of money would be half the size it is.

The sooner you realize our job solely exists to make the partner’s life sail smoothly, the sooner you’ll be equipped to handle any assignment presented. Good luck.

So they know which one to send bc the naming conventions are crap or there are a billion documents in a single folder. Oh, and your time is worth less theirs.
This thread makes me laugh. Sounds like a power struggle that you’ll lose over and over until you realize the dynamics of partner v. associate/support staff.
Mostly because a lot of those partners don’t even know how to access the firm’s DMS, or simply don’t want to. My boss asks me to save documents as new versions all the time, which can actually be done by email, with two clicks, but I just do it. Sure it takes him the same amount of time to do it himself as it does for him to email me and ask me to save it, but whatevs. I like him a lot so I do as I’m asked. I know he asks our associates to do this as well. Not a hill I want to die on.
Bc you can probably find it in 1 minute and they are already working on something else. In our system, when we want to attach something it populates with our most recent docs, so if I just did something its super easy to find and attach. Otherwise i have to go looking for it.
@A2: Not OP, but iManage works this way
Because for whatever reason I need it, but can’t log in at the moment.
