To become a project manager: certification or full degree is needed?

PMI certification.

Masters degree in French Literature optional.

like

Neither, basic common sense will do the trick. PM certification isn't really built for creative work - more applicable to IT or large scale projects (real estate, construction)

like

Some kind of college degree helps get you into the agency world, but def doesn’t need to be PM specific. Def don’t need PMI or Scrum Master cert to get in, though you might decide to invest in one/both down the road. It’s a good idea to understand what “waterfall” and “agile” mean, but also talk to PMs about what agency process looks like in reality (wagilefall?). Learn smartsheet or some kind of project planning tool (pretty easy stuff). Talk to every PM you know. They’ll love it. They’re not used to creatives being interested in how they do their job.

like

I have my Masters, but it’s in Studio Art and no PMI certification. 🤷‍♀️

Practice saying, “Ok, let me discuss with the team and get back to you on what’s possible."

like

I have neither. Finishing up my degree but not in anything even close to a business or marketing/advertising degree. I’ve learned most everything on the job and haven’t had a problem continuing my career yet. If you’re thinking of getting a certification, most companies will pay for you to get it

like

Thanks PM 1! Appreciate that. I think I might look into a Coursera cert just to show I'm serious about the transition, but good to know it's not a hard fast requirement.

Thanks for that insight SPM. Definitely only interested in PM as it relates to creativity teams.

So, I truly enjoy wealth management, corporate and institutional solutions and being in a managerial position with 5+ years in this field and in a true management position. I have a B.s in Business Administration and MBA in Global Business Management Currently hold Series 7, 9, 10 and 66 and I’m looking for great opportunities in the Atlanta market. All the help, referrals and guidance would be much appreciated! Was at JPMC before but had left to get managerial experience. I miss JPMC!

I need some advice. I got a new job back in may of this year. Very excited for a new opportunity to learn some new things and get a higher paycheck. I started and have gotten a few projects but they haven’t consistently been giving me hardly any work to do. I’m not resourced enough. I told my manager I have a lot of free time. I also work fully remote. I am feeling very unfulfilled and not sure what I should do next. I am very self motivated and want to make great work but not sure what to do.

Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

Hey fellow fishes - can you rate Deloitte Vs PWC Vs EY SAP practices ? If I am client issuing an RFP for cloud s/4 rollout and it’s a global opportunity, do I put those 3 in the same tier ? Or No? But recently I am hearing a lot of investment and attention from pWC and EY. But people can share good:bad:ugly

Transitioning from full time agency life to be a freelancer and/or part timer. How have folks negotiated their rate, hourly vs day? For reference, I’m in the Account/Project Management space and have 8+ years of experience. And I’d ideally like the rate to result in more $$ than what I was making when salaried. Thanks!
