To everyone looking to join the Great Resignation… Don’t forget there was a time when you were super excited that you got the job you’re in now.

Haha! This is exactly similar to a self-centered and extremely selfish father emotionally blackmailing his daughter to marry the person of his choice (whom she absolutely dislikes and with her already having a great boyfriend), to satisfy any of his vested interests, and under the pretext that this relationship is going to be the best for her and with sob stories of him giving life to her, raising her and sacrificing his life for her. Manipulating her into feeling and thinking that she is about to do a big sin and a shameful faithlessness to her family which will also put them to shame in front of the whole world.

I empathize with you and I completely understand this. I was so excited for my current job however I realised that I was being way way less than my peers and even though my work was steller, I was denied the promotion citing bs reasons. It really makes me sad but I need to leave my current organization for my own sake

like

Yes, I think his point is how do we manage better so the same BS reasons don’t pop up in the next gig. In my case, I was in your same situation. The new gig, I am focusing on BD and who I can get to get work done. New gig let’s me hire. The old gig froze when COVID hit. They took the wrong path. Not me.

and now we’re not lol. so are we supposed to reminisce or actually do something about it?

And then we all experienced the reality of consulting, realized our worth, built skills and are moving up/on. It’s just business.

like

I think people are misconstruing what I’m saying. I’m not saying don’t quit. I am saying reflect upon what is truly making you unhappy and do your homework on the new role to make sure you’re not in the same position a year from now.

likefunnyhelpfulupliftingsmart

Thanks I identified it and still I’m in a role I don’t like. What’s wrong with me 😣

I resigned. Haven’t started my new job yet. And my excitement is gone already. Time to start applying again.

Encouraged by corporate management practices over the last few decades. This is the system these companies have created and now they don’t like it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Tbf a lot of us came into consulting with the goal of getting out in 2-3 years

The Pandemic caused a lot of professionals to reconsider what they really want out of life. Senior execs think they're going to put that cat back in the bag and are about to have a rough impact with really.

Facts!!!!!!

Is it unpopular to say I wasn’t excited about getting my offer in the first place. I knew what I was signing up for

likefunny

My thoughts too—some of us knew we had to put in our time at a company (for me, Accenture) we didn’t expect to like before moving on to something else.

Familiarity breeds contempt 💁🏾‍♂️

I know but now I’m old and I don’t want to sleep on the floor at the client site anymore so I can get 30min extra shut eye

I’m pretty excited about the 40% raise I got by being part of that great resignation.

likesmart

True words, OP! I was very excited when I got my current job because i knew it would lead me to get awesome exits later, like now. Better to take advantage of this hot market

likesmartfunny

Currently in interviews for 3-4 exit opps

like

You don’t even need to resign…counter offers are phenomenal right now. I got 30% raise by doing that, and I’m already highly compensated. Definitely leverage the power you have at the moment. These moments are rare.

likesmart

Went thru A3's description, you get an immediate pay & promotion but leadership has long memories and will by pass you for future promotion & raises. Been there, no big deal if you have hot skills, hunt again when it's at that point

I joined Consulting 10 years ago when AMZN was sending books and FB was sending friend requests. AMZN now sending mission to space, FB has so much power they can alter elections. I'm doing the same consulting. Time to change!

I like my job but if I can get a big pay raise to do the same thing, why wouldn’t I?

like

Yeah and if I stayed in that job, it would’ve taken me another 3 years to get to a senior manager level (when I got a senior manager offer from Deloitte a few months ago). Don’t stay stagnent, y’all.

When is this “Great Resignation” people always refer to going to occur? Have the resign-ers decided on a date in which they will all leave?

Oct 15, when I received tiny bag of peanuts as my bonus

Times change. Your job as a Director is to adapt to changing situations and display managerial agility. If you can’t handle that, maybe take a different role.

like

We live in an up or out culture.

Sometimes you need a change. This is terrible advice from a Director.

I was still excited when I was working at Deloitte, just not excited enough to stay and get paid 6 figures less than my worth in the marketplace.

likefunny

Yeah, and then I got bullied, gaslighted, paid less than a first year analyst, didn’t have a social life and watched the same thing happen to my teammates… so….. bye !!!

Touche.. .. and I was discriminated against... a white-british-woman with half my experience was given my job in India! Ironically, it was I who came up in poverty/malnourished/abused/under-schooled/with no guidance or fillip/marginalised by an archaic affirmative action system/ still got into the best college in my country - merit based l, which can't be bought, and only the top 0.1% qualify for - have risen up the ranks in 2 decades - but I was a male!! So I am leaving yet another discriminatory, racist, hypocritical, American conservative org.. And after years if championing diversity & inclusion, am going to take a break from that too.. (hopefully temporarily) All the best!

smart

Leaving for more $$$. Don't need to reflect too much on that.

Are any of you CDs that were promoted to GCDs at small to mid-size agencies where the creative department is not technically divided into groups? If so, what added responsibilities were assigned to you with the promotion? I don’t work at a large agency with the traditional pyramid structure of a GCD having multiple CDs on specific accounts reporting to him/her. I work on 14 accounts.
