It’s freeing.
More money. More freedom. Can actually say no.
And while I am paying for my own insurance, I don’t have to worry about getting stuck with a mediocre plan or restarting every time I change agencies.
Infinitely happier since I went freelance. Feel like I have more control over the direction of my life instead of dealing with dumb office politics. Also, you can make your monthly health insurance in a day’s pay - that’s how I see it. Full time is so dead-end to me - did it for 20 yrs until I went freelance 2 years ago.
Two of my friends went freelance. They both made double+ their salary and they could live anywhere. Downside is that you need to hustle your next gig and no health insurance. I’m planning on finishing my contract and go freelance later this year
Pros: all of the above.
Cons: you loose control of the project. It’s harder to make things happen.
I’ve never heard of a freelance VP so you’d lose whatever perks come with the title.
I think freelancing makes more sense at higher levels at least for creatives. JR and mid creatives are usually brought in to work on the crap work while the in-house teams focus on something else. Occasionally brought in for pitch work, but still hard to get anything decent for your book. But none of this matters as much at the higher levels
