To the Big 3 and Big 4 consultants who have worked in consulting 2-3 years after undergrad: If you were to exit into an 9-6 industry role, what kind of base salary would you need to consider leaving?

I’m currently a little over 100k 2.5 years in a T2 city. For me to leave, I’d need minimally 110. For context, I hate this job and am desperate to leave so I don’t need a huge jump but just enough to make it feel worth it.

like

Depends on city. To leave after C1 I’d want 200k guaranteed, 250k for crushing it. Probably not in line with market, so I’ll probably stay

like

C1 is a 3rd year role with one promotion at end of 2y

Big 3 and Big 4 salaries do not equate. MBB salaries are much higher than Big 4 at every step along the way and the gap gets larger as you move up. To answer your question, if existing from Big 4, I’d need at least $100K but closer to 15-20% bump depending on nature of role. I’d also take it at lower salary if it better for my career long term. Sometimes, you take a step sideways to move up later on. I did that.

As my grandma always says, “Anything less than 20% isn’t worth your time.”

I would say 2x salary plus upside. 4 years out of undergrad. That’s consistent with some offers.

Getting recruited for a client’s internal consulting role offering ~100K. I’ve been in consulting 2-3 years and am weighing my options.

Aim for 20% bump from current comp

At any point I would look for a 20% bump and when asked about salary range would state my range according to that desire. That’s not to say they would meet that range (or truthfully, that I’m really worth that, but I will stand by that). Ultimately if they can’t quite get to that point in terms of base, I would evaluate other benefits to negotiate and “make up” for that, and if it’s really the right job, may still take it. Less than 20% would have to still have growth opportunities, even if not at the same pace. And if leaving for industry, better WLB. Or at least comparable WLB...I have a decent set up right now.

Ex B4, currently at boutique for 130k TC. For me to exit to industry has to be 150k+, if in right area. If not, 200k (which I realize is not likely). 2 YOE

What boutique firm did you go to?
