Only product person in a small start-up of 8. I have to pick up a lot of the business ops stuff - models, investor decks etc. It gives me a great broad picture view but means only 70% of my time is actually product management
I've managed to get offers by leveraging the breadth of my experience. However, other startups rejected me because my product knowledge was too informal and they wanted a more traditional background.
It's work. And there's always more of it. I have to hold firm boundaries around my time and capacity, because it's easy for everyone to ask too much of each other. I kind of enjoy the thrill of it, though.
I’m a B2B product manager at a multi billion privately held company. I had to make my own PM role. Everything folks shared above feels like my life.
