I told them pretty much everything outside of the name. I don't think you'll be in trouble for saying, but I never did. Recruiters don't really care and are just doing a quick screen. The hiring manager would care more but even then I never named any client.
Only problem would be if they ask about problems/challenges and you end up bad-mouthing a specific client. Better to be general like "fortune 50 manufacturing client" or something. I'm out of risk now and it worked for me.
I’ve always been curious about this. I hear partners and senior managers name drop all the time to clients to boast how big of clients we serve. But I’ve always been cautious about name dropping.
I usually go generic, e.g. "a transport operator" or "an investment bank"
If the fact that an org is a client is part of the public record then I can't see a problem letting them know you worked on that specific client, but in terms of detail, I stay generic.
"I planned and led delivery on an advisory review of corporate governance for a leading national pensions provider"
