Today I accomplished my goal of $10,000 straight in my high yield savings account and I am so proud of myself😭 I have my 401k but had to pay out of pocket for a few things in the past year so savings depleted, but now I have $10,000 that’s all mine that I can access anytime if I need it. Next up is $20k, then $30k, and so on!

My wife and I would like to retire at age 50 (or earlier). We’re in our early 30s. We’ve been maxing out 401ks and IRAs for years and started contributing 20k a year into a taxable account to start filling the gap since we can’t access 401k until 55. At what point should we be reducing 401k/IRAs and redirecting to the taxable account? Otherwise our income balloons late in life. Curious how others are managing this.

Anyone else feel broke? Wife and I collectively make ~250k, are debt free and save to our 401k's. neither come from wealthy families. Both don't drink or eat out much. Or have expensive shopping...

$130k is not enough to cover living expenses for me and my wife in N. Va. We always overspend by around $300 every month. We are doing this thing where we live on my income (the 130k) and save all the money my wife makes, because I was naive enough to think I made a lot of money. Preface: I am a noob. For my 401k with Fidelity, I have 50% in JLGPX (large cap), 30% in FCAGX (small cap), and 20% in COSIX (bonds), but I’m only 27 (no bonds?) All investments are down, so does that mean now is or is not a good time to rebalance? Also saw someone mention doing 80% in Large cap (my options are BSPAX, OGEAX, JLPGX, or PEQIX) and 20% in Intl (my options are WFENX, FOPAX, or FSPSX). Would I be better off using BSPAX to try to stay with S&P500? And how do I choose an Intl one?

401K and stock portfolio is in the red. 🫤 Yesterday, the stock market imploded like an already peeved person who was told to “calm down.” The Dow posted its biggest one-day drop since 2020, and just eight companies in the S&P 500 closed higher. The dramatic sell-off was sparked by Target’s earnings, which showed that soaring costs are putting the squeeze on margins (it didn’t help that Walmart said the same thing the day before). Target’s stock suffered its worst drop since 1987.

Other than contributing to your 401k and IRA, what other long-term investment options would you guys recommend? Any specific ETFs or index funds?

How many of you use a Roth 401k versus a traditional? Is there an income / tax threshold where it doesn’t make sense to use a Roth 401k anymore?

Thoughts on Fundrise? I generally invest yearly to personal accounts outside of ROTH 401k etc and was informed about Fundrise. Anyone have experience and thoughts would it being a better form of investing than say ETFs or high dividend stocks/ETF?

Everything is harder for an Indian immigrant. It was a battle to get picked in the H1-B visa “lottery”. I haven’t seen my family in 3 years because I can’t find a visa stamping appointment at the US consulate in India. Flight tickets to go to India in the month of December is $5000. Millions are waiting to get a visa and the government, that should serve its people, is creating more roadblocks for its citizens. How is this not being spoken about?
