OP I’m sorry but you sound quite naive. There was never a time where looking at the US flag should have made you feel proud. The country was built with the absence of a moral compass. It seems you’ve become aware of this only now.

PM1 - there is a lot to be proud of the US, and I firmly believe in this country and it’s people. It is not perfect, and I plan to do my part in helping make it better. Running away or negating all the good is not what any of us should do. 🙂
I wonder if full tuition paying students leave or new once stop coming how many universities will go bankrupt or need bailout. Guess American students don't have to worry about loosing seat since there won't be university. Win win for all.
I’m guessing some of these commenters didn’t hear about the new ICE policy announced today affecting international students

EY3 there is no precedent for that extension at this time. If universities are open, students are expected to be there.

I don’t know if people understand what this new mandate actually is - it means if you’re a Harvard student for example who’s been on campus for the last 2 or 3 years for a full on legit bachelors course, because now Harvard wants to make the fall semester online, you gotta GTFO of the US. It’s not that your degree was an online degree to begin with like Phoenix university. Like why is this a necessary move by the administration? You’re costing so much loss of revenues to universities that are already freaking out at the prospects of lower matriculation (not so much Harvard but same applies to any other university, most of which do NOT have millions of endowment).
Let’s not forget the other economic implications like housing and other products and services that the international student community pays for just living somewhere. Your mom and pop small time landlords, many of whom are trump voters too, would be pissed. No one is gonna be there to rent their homes in the middle of nowhere campuses.

Wow the majority of responses here are really shocking. Trump is 100% gonna win again
Yup

In case some of you are unaware of the sadist actions by this deplorable administration. It has perfected the art of beating those that are already down, especially foreign nationals! Shameful!

Actually, many of the students I worked with when I was in admissions were unwilling/unable to pay full price - there’s always a less-expensive option if their financial aid package doesn’t meet the benchmark they were hoping for. And even government student loans don’t always cover 100% of tuition/fees. If I had a dollar for every student or parent that called me crying after they got the financial aid offer because they still couldn’t afford it, I could probably fund my own scholarship. That only gets worse if you remove international students from the equation, not better.
So many broken brains in here. Trump really broke people’s ability to think for themselves.

I'm a university trustee, at our last meeting 3 weeks ago there over 80 students not allowed to return to their country due to closed borders, and over 100 that couldn't get home because travel was only through countries that weren't allowing transit travelers. We were focused on addressing the student needs, I didnt delve into the country names, I trusted the State Department report.
This particular university has ~3000 undergrads and ~2500 grad students.
I guess after Jan they will kick all H1Bs out too. I can already see that happening. Trump is surely gonna win in 2020. Every industry has its black sheep, I guess we are seeing those shades now.
So if colleges are closed for the time being and these students lived on campus when attending school where would they live while going to school online if they can't live in the dorms currently? If they could take classes online wouldn't that mean they could be anywhere in the world? Let's tone down the emotional rhetoric for a minute and think about this pragmatically
How are they then able to afford to stay here? What have they been doing with no school? Is it really safer here vs back home for them where their family and friends are located.

Democrats are not the solution to the American dream lol they want free programs paid by successful Americans. Republicans are about pursuing your dreams
Interesting that no one is seeing this as a move to pressure more schools to reopen. I'm lucky that my school will be reopening, but if it wasn't, this kind of pressure would force administration to think twice about their decision
No new H1B -> ban on new visa stamps -> ban on F1 students taking classes online -> just wait for a ban on H1B working from home... I’m so sick of Trump and his supporters.
I paid out of state tuition, had much more difficulty in finding a job (guess what, most companies are afraid of sponsoring H1B and this visa costs added to the hiring cost and uncertainty), contributed taxes... Maybe it will come down to kicking us out, need to get mentally prepared for it
Yeah take your talent to a place that values you! It will be hard in the beginning but it will work out in the end. Unfortunately US will pay the price when nobody wants to come here and there is no sustainable innovations in the future.
Absolutely hate CNN but you can't ignore what's going on these days.
Come on guys let’s be real. Of course they have to send the students home if they only have online classes. Major loophole if this would not be the case as anyone in the world could just sign up for online classes and get a US visa. I was a international student and I feel their pain but it’s only logical or am I misinterpreting this?
Were you also in a middle of a pandemic with most international borders closed and flights charging multiple times the usual rate?
Ok
