Today I noticed that the barcode on a bottle of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat (best beer in the world, fight me) is shaped like a Sam Adams pint glass.

I got super excited until my wife pointed out that it’s pretty common for packaged foods to have fun barcode shapes, and she pulled out a few things (spring mix, yogurt, milk, etc…) to show me. TTTWOOMS.

Is this a new thing? When did brands start doing this? Is it just packaging designers having fun?
