Hey Bob, I know I said I’d have this to you today, but we are actually making some tweaks. My bad. You will have it by xx. Have a wonderful weekend! It’s Memorial Day weekend, man. He probably won’t even look at it until next week.

He responded saying no worries and wishing me an amazing weekend. That was easy lol. Weekend, is that you playa?

Communicate communicate communicate- I’d rather have my client tell me to stop sending him/her status/info emails as opposed to them calling me out on not informing them... in other words what P1 said

like

Bob here. I appreciated your email.

I don’t think the client necessarily expects anything. If it doesn’t come today it will come Tuesday and earth with still be there. So no stress, get a drink and send the email above. Clients understand- you don’t even have to be sorry.

like

Yes set a high standard and follow it. Consulting 101: give your client updates, don’t make the client ask for them.

Thanks so much! P1 & SM1. Was worried about making a commitment & not keeping to it, but I’m sure he’ll understand. Sent an email. Thank you

OP, this is where you jump in and say, “His name is Bob, “ and I look like an fing rockstar.

funnylike

Your client probably called it a day between 2 - 3pm today. Just inform about the delay, apologize and mention when you will be sending it out. Also offer her/him to walkthrough it to answer questions/ address concerns on the spot.

like

P1 - what if his name isn’t Bob?

funnylike

Just write him back an email and be honest.

Agree on sending a status update! Communication is key 😊

Don’t want to send it as-is until I receive feedback from my team

If you send out an email to inform him why you won’t be able to send the deliverable today as promised —> you are setting a very high standards for yourself and setting a precedent...tread carefully.

^^^ lol

What have your experiences been like switching from agency to client side? Do you like it? How long have you been in both sides? How did you get in? Stupid question — please be delicate, I’m new. I just started my first freelance gig with an agency and I’m in the system as a temporary/contract employee and I’ve filled out a weekly timesheet. Do I need to / not need to invoice at the end of the project? Assume no, as that’s what the payroll paperwork + formal timesheets are for but I wanna make sure I’m not missing a step.

6 months in at a new firm. 4th year attorney. Completely new practice area from what I did previously. The partner often sends the random potential client call ins my way. Many times, they have questions related to things I’ve never done and he only provides guidance if I can pull him away from something else to ask. I’m super low on hours but feel that it would be ethically wrong to take on a case involving an issue Im totally unfamiliar with and not confident handling. Wrong approach?

A colleague shared with me the presentation they have prepared for their promotion case. I worked with them on multiple projects during the year and I can clearly see that some of the claims on the deck are wild exaggeration or lies. For example, managed changes in scope for Project X including contract changes. Plot twist: there never was a change of scope for Project X and the contract is exactly the same. How can people be so dishonest? How far can you go before truth catching up?

I think (fingers crossed) that I am about to get a job offer for a management role. It would be a 45 percent pay increase and I honestly might be able to negotiate it to up to 55, but I just don’t feel excited about it. It’s a smaller company then where I am now, but still a decent size and great reputation, but the team is much smaller. I really want to be more excited because I know it’s a good opportunity. Any advice?
