Double early promos to manager is just a hilarious thing to say to an associate. No single person has the power to promise you that.

In the words of Bon Jovi “It's my life. It's now or never. I ain't gonna live forever. I just want to live while I’m alive” 🎶 Aka, don’t do crap you don’t want to do for a living just because you want to please someone who doesn’t have to live with your decisions. Everyone is replaceable - they’ll move on. 🤷🏽‍♀️

like

If you leave they’ll move on, don’t worry

like

Yes and I still left. If you decided this career path isn’t for you, stick with your decision. You need to do what is best for you.

like

Also if you’re a top performer there that will probably be the same case in whatever path you pursue next

like

If you leave they will just "groom" someone else. Do what you gotta do.

I was a top performer going senior with a 30% base raise, 8% ppb that I'm forfeiting because I left 2 weeks before the payout date and my new job is less than my senior 1 salary. No regrets. Sometimes it's not about the money. In your case, if mgmt's amazing plan doesnt make you fall in love, think about alternatives.

like

Yes. I had multiple sitdowns with partners I worked with who tried to convince me to stay- I ultimately did but not because of any of the self-serving BS that was spewed.

like

Similar to manager 1, I had 4 partners try to convince me to stay. I did not.

like

If your team cares about you at all, they will want to keep you in the firm at all costs, even if that means you’re working in a different service line. Yes, they will try to convince you to stay in audit, but if you have already internally networked to the team you want and have a legitimate opportunity, they will generally be respectful. I switched into FDD last year and my relationship partner, while not being incredibly helpful, was still supportive of what was best for my career. Ultimately, we are just warm bodies, everyone will always be short-staffed, and no matter how good you are, there will be someone to take your place. They will also not want to waste their “grooming” on someone who’s a flight risk, and if you know you are unhappy, you’re either going to leave audit, leave the firm, or leave public accounting altogether, and they really don’t want that.

Promotions every year? You must be partner already...how does more than one KPMG employee manage to get into an office building with the oversized heads you all have lol

I knew there was a 50/50 chance this would turn into a troll post. Was just hoping for some stories from people in a similar spot.

Nothing is ever promised but I have respected senior managers and partners that believe in me and have sort of aligned the chess pieces for me - if you will.

I just feel a sense of disloyalty that I no longer want this path after they’ve put their efforts to groom me. I’m going to obviously talk to them and have all the real conversations and take charge of own career. Wasn’t meant to be a humblebrag or anything. Just wanted some insight if anyone’s been in a similar spot and then had a change of heart

Op I am in same boat as you. I am top performing Senior two and asked for rotation earlier this year. They did not wanted me to transfer and were making excuses. I went ahead and got a job offer from a competitor for different line of service, where I asked for rotation. Once I had the offer and told them I am leaving they promised and got me in where I wanted, at least 3 month rotation with option to extend. It took little time but everything happened in promised time.
If you are top performer they will try to keep you with firm if you made it clear that you would leave unless got a rotation or transfer that you like. At the end of the day it is your career and you know what’s best for you. If you wanna love or do a rotation ask for as early as possible because the longer you wait the harder it is for your group/firm.

All I get from this is that EY employees are salty that KPMG employees get more than a "meets" in performance reviews

When I was with Deloitte in my hometown, my branch partner and manager groomed me pretty well (promotions every year, early responsibility and gave me opportunities to be the first to experience new audit initiatives and clients). I have foreseen myself to work with them in a long term.

I have always wanted to do an international short term secondment (3 months up to 2 years) just to gain more exposure and bring the knowledge back to my home office as my branch partner back then is subject to have bad ratings in his internal practice review. They are not entirely against it but they are not supporting it either. With that regard, I found an equivalent role overseas at KPMG and they’re happy for me although they tried delaying my starting date at KPMG 🤣🤣🤣 which didn’t work.

After my departure, my former firm continues to run as usual. Just that the workload and quality is slightly compromised without my presence as they continue running with the existing staff and couldn’t find any new experienced hires to join them. Hope all goes well with them as they have made me who I am today.

like

@EY1 if you’re referring to me, back in my home country, any form of progression is considered a promotion at Deloitte if that makes sense.

Eg Grad (Staff Assistant 1=Accountant 1)>Semi Senior (Staff Assistant 2 = Accountant 2)>Senior 1>Senior 2>AM>M and so on.

For most firms, a normal performing staff can progress through the ranks from 1-2 years. Not for my office in particular as we are not in the head office and due to size of division. We have quite a number of grads managed to be a semi Senior after 2.5 years of service, and one semi senior took 3 years to be a Senior 1.

So don’t get me wrong, I am just using the exact terms as what Deloitte in my home country is using (the word progression is not in their dictionary).

Been since May 23rd that I’ve completed my background check. Called the 3rd party company and they said the background check has been sent to the hiring company for review as of last Friday. Hi folks, I recently applied for a new role in EMEA for a Specialist Solutions Architect. Got through n received an offer letter. But seems like the base is a bit lower than what i saw online in a couple of places (not sure of years of experience there though). Is it worth it to bring it up and ask the HM to raise an exception? How much time will this take? Is it a risk? Already the entire process has dragged on cause of delays on recruitment's part etc. Any advice or insight would be helpful!

I’m currently at a medium sized tech startup. I was interviewing for a role that would be a bump in pay and title at a multinational public F50 company. At first, the hiring manager and head of legal were very complementary about my experience. Almost too much so. After a week of interviews with the team (softball-esq), I was informed that if I wanted to join, they would bring me on at a lower title. I’m not sure about comp yet. But if comp is still an increase + experience at a public..

3 years ago I asked for a compensation review/raise, went through what felt like a ridiculous 8 MONTH long process of defending why it was warranted, only to be told no. 3 months ago I asked again and it has gone nowhere. I should add that salary bands are kept secret and I have no clue what the range for my position is. There are a decent amount of benefits in my position, the biggest being WLB, which is what has kept me here for so long. But I’m getting frustrated. What would you do?

Be on the lookout for Attribution Bias in yourself & on your team. It's a hindrance to creating a high-performing, inclusive culture.
