It’s time for me to move on from my back office/CBS job at EY. I’ve been able to get through to recruiter and hiring manager screening round with FAANG employers and some tech companies but never beyond that. How can I differentiate myself when I’m probably also up against our client facing colleagues in consulting. I have about 12 years experience (7 at EY doing the same thing).

Any PgM level 4 or 5 here?
Hi Google - I am requesting guidance!
I am prepping for my interview specifically GCA and open ended questions. I struggle to tell if the outcome should be talking through your process/steps (maybe for a question like - how would you go about determining program complexity) vs a specific solution such as create x new product, for x market by x date based on my assumptions. Is the desired outcome something I can clarify with the interviewer?

My experience as a hiring manager is consistent with what G1 said. The only entry level hires I've made have come through our internship programs. Everyone else I've hired externally had at least 5 YOE and many 10+.

Google is a weird place to get into IMO. Unless you interned with google and were part of a feeder program, the door is kind of closed until you hit ~4 YoE. Don’t mean to rain on your parade but that’s just my observation. Definitely aim for a referral though.
Agreed. I always said unless you were a college hire, you need at least 4+ YOE before trying to get in.

Most people have 8-10 years experience.
Google is a great place to go to after you have established yourself in your 20s elsewhere
As a person with 1 yoe - you won't get a look.
Come back after 5-6 more years
Seconded.
In my past interview experiences at google (3 YOE, got to the virtual on-site twice this year but never made it to HC) you need something to differentiate yourself. People from MBB/T2 firms at the entry level are a dime a dozen and there’s always someone better than you with more relevant experience or they’ve done really amazing things.
Maybe I’m not the best example but I was able to reverse-stalk the person who got the job on LinkedIn a few months later and then I understood the rationale. The other candidate(s) had a more relevant background or way more YOE. The competition is definitely stiff.
