What is a reasonable higher rate to negotiate? For example if you got offered 60k, is 70k a reasonable negotiation? And what factors determine whether or not this is reasonable? How do you quantify your skillset to validate how high you should negotiate? Is 10k more too high of a jump? Newbie here and first time negotiating.
Have you ever worked on a government research project? Can you share anything about your experience? Curious if it’s something I might be interested in pursuing

People that started in finance young: any regrets? I feel like I'm wasting my 20s working +60hr weeks, while my friends in other industries have plenty of free time...
Tomorrow is my LWD and I checked in MeddiBuddy app that my HIS is auto enrolled for year 2022-2023. Will they deduct the complete payable amount from my Full n Final settlement or is there any chance that i can surrender this insurance.
Do most recruiters usually call with a verbal offer first and then get like your okay then email you the written offer the same day? Just curious if you want to negotiate the offer if should do it after they provide the verbal or after get the written one so can review everything then negotiate? Been a while since I’ve got one so want to have idea of when is best to negotiate
General Post - Starting a new job is always tough for me. I try to insert myself and say hello to as many people as possible, but I always feel like people are standoffish. Am I the only one who experiences this?
I have an informational interview with a senior person at a PE fund tomorrow (fellow alum). Currently prepping and coming up with questions to ask him about the industry/fund. Without giving too much away it’s a MM fund that is consultant friendly and does a lot of add-ons. Would welcome any smart questions to add to my list. Thanks!!
Anybody read Japanese?
Anyone here in the admissions applications side hustle? I went to an Ivy MBA program and figured that’s enough credentials to help with applications.
I have two offers : a) IB first year analyst at a BB firm 50k base; b) 70k consultant role at a life science consultancy - is it stupid to go for the IB ? For reference, the 20K extra translates into 1K after tax monthly income
Is there a cap/limit on number of days we can stay outside a country or take a vacation when you are on H1b and get paid during the same period?
Nylons. Do I really need them? I freaking hate them and they seem dated. But also, my legs are kind of pasty and not amazingly toned. I still want to dump every pair. Thoughts? Reasonable alternatives?

Have any of you thought about parking some of your emergency funds in a muni bond (tax exempt) etf? I have ~1yrs worth of cash in High yield checking/savings accounts (2% interest), but am in the top tax bracket and am worried about the tax drag. I know munis have performed abysmally with the fed tightening, but am wonder if most of the pain is priced in at this point. Thoughts?
Is there a good book to teach kids, teens and even college students about personal finance or should i write one?!
My father is an accredited investor and invests in private companies. I said I’d give him $50k for one of the investments but technically it’s all in his name. 3x return. Any way to touch that money without double taxation (expecting to pay his highest tax bracket on the returns since shorter than 1 year and then gift tax above $30k)? Thinking about asking him to put it in a separate bank account in his name linked to my credit card - but still likely too much money to burn through.
Is 1600 a lot to spend on rent with a 116k salary? No car payment or other major expenses monthly. I’ve never lived alone and am used to paying a lot less for rent. Debating if it’s worth paying 1400 for a place that is not as nice, but ultimately I don’t think it makes much of a difference?
Quick question: will you buy vanguard index funds through a vanguard account or their ETF versions through Robinhood or Ameritrade (already have Robinhood and Ameritrade) ?

Saw lots of posts about rentals and wanted to share my experience as someone who currently has 14 units that I am currently looking to sell.
Pros : cheap real estate in PA, good cashflow when all tenants pay, PA is an easy state to evict someone if they aren't paying (unlike NY/NJ)
Cons : Cheap real estate usually means not the best area, tenants are all liars, random expenses fall on your head, if you dont live near the area you have to pay someone to do everything for you which adds up and may
Has anyone here used Groundfloor as a way to invest in real estate debt? Interested in chatting with folks who have tried or are thinking about it - what are the potential pitfalls here? Seems like if you diversify across a number of notes, you could earn a fairly healthy return here?
AMZN, AAPL, MSFT, & GOOG are not going anywhere. Cloud computing and data are so big and I see no point in why people invest in other companies as a safety if these 4 giants run the world as we know it. How wrong am I?
I opened a Marcus HYSA based on the advice in here and now (too late) I'm freaking out that I allowed this "Plaid" thing to access my bank accounts to move the money over. And it requires linking all accounts, which seems unnecessary. Do folks think it is secure??
I currently make over 180k base salary as a single filer with no large purchases planned and 12 months of expenses saved.
Should/Can I do a mega backdoor AND backdoor Roth? Or do you have to choose one or the other?
I'm currently on Fidelity for my retirement plans.
What do you do after FIRE?
NY state took my tax refund because of an outstanding liability. Is there a way to get my money back?
From a FIRE perspective is it worth moving back in with toxic parents (to both save on NYC rent prices and help them out a bit financially)? Imagine being constantly miserable/mentally stressed anytime I will be at home, and a 2 hour commute each way to work, but parents don’t at all restrict my freedom (can stay with friends, go on mini-cations with boyfriend, etc. as often as I can/want).
Though there are many HMBradley posts, a search has not helped me answer the following two questions: 1. I'm ready to take the plunge; would someone like to give me a referral link? 2. Trying to understand how to maintain a 20% savings rate if I need to actually use the funds at some point. I understand I need to make some direct deposits before June, and as long as I don't withdraw, I'll qualify for 3% starting in July. It seems that I should also transfer the money I want to save (cont)
Received a letter from Wells Fargo today. They are offering a refinance of fixed 30 year mortgage at 3.5%. I have no idea how they can do this judging by today’s interest rates. Currently my interest rate is at 4.5%. Judging by Wells Fargo sketchy history, I don’t trust it, however has anyone else gotten this offer?
When will it end 😭😭😭
Is it advisable to set a weekly automatic investment for VTSAX or better to have monthly auto invest? Do i get more charge fee if I do it weekly?

Planning to have roommates until I get married. Then my hubby will be my roommate. Financially, its the best decision if you have responsible roommates.
I’m going to get my own bathroom next time though, getting too old to be sharing.
Great financial plan, but I spent seven years living alone after having roommates for eight years. Married with kids now, but living alone afforded me a freedom and learning experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. My point is, maybe try living alone for a year or two while you can.
I'm 32 and have been living alone for 8 years. thinking of getting roommates again because I'm tired of paying a premium for the privilege of living alone. I can be alone once I FIRE. It's not just the rent, but utilities and then 100% if the chores that eat up your time or you have to hire someone to do. I'd rather split a cleaning lady 4 ways. And only call and coordinate the plumber 25% of the time.
I’ve lived alone for 7 years and went the roommate route last year and now moved back with my parents. I’m loving it... no more laundry, vacuuming, dish washing. Going to be hard to go back to living alone now 😂
You could give it a year and see if it’s worth the trade off. I personally like living alone though if I lived in a bigger place I wouldn’t mind a roommate
in the same boat! sick of my roommates (even though they’re nice) but it’s so expensive to live alone smh ugh
Im 32 right now. I had roommates 18-25. I loved having roommates because I always had someone to talk to or go out with. After college I moved to a new city and if it weren't for my roommate I dont know what I would have done.
I used all the $ i saved by having roommates to finish my MBA debt free and save up for a big downpayment on my house. I bought my house at 25. I thought about having a roommate but things were getting serious with my boyfriend (now husband) and I was afraid if I got a roommate I would never experience living alone before I got married.
My sister went from having roommates to moving in with her bf. She asked for my advice and I strongly recommended living alone for a little bit so you have that experience at least once in your life. She didnt listen to me 🙃
Around the same age and still have roommates and plan to in the future as well. Pretty low maintenance though and rather save the $. Ik some ppl think privacy and having own space is invaluable. Comes down to personal preference.
You mention "is it time." Might be dependent on COL. Especially in HCOL areas ppl still have roomies at older ages. MCOL I feel it's less common for sure. I don't think there's a set time of when to live alone though.
