Planning to have roommates until I get married. Then my hubby will be my roommate. Financially, its the best decision if you have responsible roommates.
I’m going to get my own bathroom next time though, getting too old to be sharing.
Great financial plan, but I spent seven years living alone after having roommates for eight years. Married with kids now, but living alone afforded me a freedom and learning experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. My point is, maybe try living alone for a year or two while you can.
I'm 32 and have been living alone for 8 years. thinking of getting roommates again because I'm tired of paying a premium for the privilege of living alone. I can be alone once I FIRE. It's not just the rent, but utilities and then 100% if the chores that eat up your time or you have to hire someone to do. I'd rather split a cleaning lady 4 ways. And only call and coordinate the plumber 25% of the time.
I’ve lived alone for 7 years and went the roommate route last year and now moved back with my parents. I’m loving it... no more laundry, vacuuming, dish washing. Going to be hard to go back to living alone now 😂
You could give it a year and see if it’s worth the trade off. I personally like living alone though if I lived in a bigger place I wouldn’t mind a roommate
in the same boat! sick of my roommates (even though they’re nice) but it’s so expensive to live alone smh ugh
Coach
Im 32 right now. I had roommates 18-25. I loved having roommates because I always had someone to talk to or go out with. After college I moved to a new city and if it weren't for my roommate I dont know what I would have done.
I used all the $ i saved by having roommates to finish my MBA debt free and save up for a big downpayment on my house. I bought my house at 25. I thought about having a roommate but things were getting serious with my boyfriend (now husband) and I was afraid if I got a roommate I would never experience living alone before I got married.
My sister went from having roommates to moving in with her bf. She asked for my advice and I strongly recommended living alone for a little bit so you have that experience at least once in your life. She didnt listen to me 🙃
Around the same age and still have roommates and plan to in the future as well. Pretty low maintenance though and rather save the $. Ik some ppl think privacy and having own space is invaluable. Comes down to personal preference.
You mention "is it time." Might be dependent on COL. Especially in HCOL areas ppl still have roomies at older ages. MCOL I feel it's less common for sure. I don't think there's a set time of when to live alone though.
