Anyone know anyone who has gone from client facing role to something internal? Specifically recruiting? Trying to figure out how to make the switch without stepping on any toes.
I’m a junior and stuck in a situation where my senior has said that I ask too many questions and should just know what I need to do (so I’ve stopped asking questions) but also when I try to be proactive and get something wrong, get a very long talking to about my mistakes. I feel anxious and scared to do anything at this point. How do I navigate this?!?
Going to umrah via Egyptian airlines (departing from JFK), I have never flown with them before but am a bit worried. Anyone flown with them before and what are your reviews/tips?
Considering buying vs renting in NYC...any thoughts? I love NY and plan on working here for 10+ years. Prices and rates are low. Why pay rent when you can progress towards ownership?

By popular demand we’ll be adding a google form to collect data going forwards. Look for that in the next few days. Anybody who has already submitted their data won’t need to input it again. That said, if you’re new, please post your info on the thread as well as the sheet. We’ve gotten some really terrific conversations generated from the thread. I want to keto that going.
What is the approximate appraisal an IT Analyst in TCS gets on its first march appraisal?
Should I prep before starting a PE gig in the summer? Or enjoy the free time while I can
For KGS India, I ll be shifting to base location and pay House rent from July. But need to enter it in Payroll portal for tax planning and reduction in TDS from now. It is asking me for Landlord name address in Investment declaration. Should I enter these details randomly or should I increase 80C investment for now and after 2-3 months update HRA and reduce 80C to actual?

Does anyone else have motivation problems for those odd bits of time between meetings? For example: this morning I had a call at 10, ended at 10:30 and did a quick memo. Have another call at 11 but cannot seem to bring myself to do anything in the interim. This is a recurring issue and it’s really (negatively) impacting my billing. Does anyone have any advice or solutions???

When is a good time to join a nonprofit board? Don't want to lose touch with my ideals but also don't want to stretch myself too thin too early
I have a new lined up - start date is Aug 10. Will my current firm hate me forever if I take 30 days PTO on July 5th and then immediately quit when I come back?
Has anyone got in trouble for not going into the office the designated amount of days your office requires?
I have been reading posts from newer associates about bad things partners have done or said to them and I think it could be fun for some of us more senior lawyers in the bowl to tell stories of mean things partners did or said to us when we were new associates. Hopefully it stays mostly light and not horrible things.
What are your thoughts on using legal continuing education credits for a different license? Essentially, taking credit for them in two professions (e.g. law and realty).
Is $70,000/year, requiring 1600 billable hours, with a $4K bonus if I make the billable hours requirement, reasonable for family law?
The practice is 10-20 people; 5 attorneys if I join. In the suburb of Atlanta, GA.
Anyone else take the bar exam after practicing for a while? I took another state bar this past July and just remembered that I get my results tomorrow. Now I’m all distracted and worried I failed. Sometimes I really hate our profession 🙄
How do you tow the fine line between sticking up for yourself and not talking back to a partner? For context, our firm has seemingly started making a paper trail for layoffs and I disagree with some of the emails that I have received. I want to respond in a way that covers my own ass. However, I don’t want to piss anyone off, especially if I have read the situation incorrectly.
Are there remote Big Law jobs out there? I live in a smaller Florida market.
Is it possible for someone with 5 years experience primarily in ID (including complex excess and high value cases) to move into a Big Law role? Any advice to do this?
Billed 2500 hours or so last year at a smaller firm but have opportunities to jump to big law. Being paid under market at my firm by about $30-50k. Went to smaller firm for more experiences up front. Should I make the jump?
Second year corporate/ECVC associate (not big law), losing my job for sure next week (long story short I screwed up and I’ve been frozen out ice cold). Started interviewing already, should hear back from a firm next week and have two more interviews as well. Has anyone recovered from being let go while actively searching? How did you handle it?
Not a lawyer specific question, but since many of us have crazy student loan debt thought I’d ask here. Why on earth isn’t there a conversation around the predatory interest rates on student loans? I feel like it would be so easy for the federal government to slash those rates, then people would actually pay back their loans, and it would be so much better for so many. We are instead having exclusively conversations about loan forgiveness but why no love for reduction in interest?
Just started as a first year at an ID firm in soflo. Had no idea what I was getting myself into or that 2400 hours was out of the ordinary. I expected to get grinded and paid “low” but now I’m scared that I won’t be able to get out of ID based off what I’ve been reading and make real money like I had hoped. Any advice on getting out/when if it’s too soon?
It just happens that this week I spent a fair amount of time negotiating with clients/potential clients on legal fees - and it is exhausting. I am less than 2 years in private practice...

Recruiters are completely, utterly useless and will do nothing but waste your time. Change my mind. Just venting.

3rd or 4th, with a big shift toward running negotiations during year 4.
I think it depends on what you mean. Just literally negotiating and drafting, first year.
2nd, but I was in venture and was a paralegal for many years pre- law school.
I do heavy drafting right now as a first year, but I clerked under a named partner for a year before I graduated. As far as negotiations go, I’m allowed to sit in the room during conference calls, but I don’t speak other than to introduce myself.
I’m 9 months in and am drafting various agreements and governance documents with much less oversight now. Like the above, I’m not engaged in negotiations during calls but am expected to prepare written responses to comments and revisions by opposing counsel.
