Transactional Associates (biglaw): At what point should the more admin tasks be taken off your plate? I spend so much time sending signature blocks, prepping sig pages, updating checklists, collating documents, etc. The deals I work on are typically staffed by a partner, me, and a paralegal (who only does title and survey review). I’m in this terrible zone where the partner doesn’t pay attention to my deals because I have it under control, but I don’t have anyone under me I can delegate to

These aren’t admin tasks. A paralegal should be handling.

No worries. I do know that when work loads are low associates will also keep these tasks for themselves. Also, the mentality is, associates need to know how to do these things so they can properly delegate know what’s involved. If you’re concerned you should bring it up. May free you up for richer fruit!

At least a young Asociate or good paralegal needs to do this. Whether you have someone you can pass that to depends on your firm. Someone needs to do it and it needs to be right. It’s a pain but we’ve all had to do it, and sometimes unusually senior folks have to do it if there’s nobody else.

like

If you're the junior then it's your job. Granted some of the stuff you can maybe give your admin very clear instructions but you need to check and make sure it's done right. It (doing/reviewing) stops being your job when you have someone competent junior to you
I'm right there with you, waiting to train up a junior to take over this stuff but I still do signature page packets when it just needs to be done or I don't have time to supervise my admin

Any advice on how to approach your Google manager about turning your role into 60% part-time (3 days/week)? I know there is business need for role, so would be hit to the team, but I’m feeling burn out hard and don’t see how I can last much longer. Figure it would be better to go part time than leave altogether, but can’t really say that to my manager. Any way to explore this without blowing everything up?

Had a second interview with AmLaw200 firm Monday, which I originally got from a referral from an influential partner. All seemed to go fantastic and heard back from two of the most relevant partners replying to my thank you email saying they’d definitely be in touch soon. Now I’m getting nervous although I’ve got other interviews and don’t really want them to get back yet. I also know it can take a bit to get an offer together but the anticipation is increasing. Should be a great weekend!
