Transactional associates: Why is it ever worth it being an asshole to opposing counsel? Are you trying to make the deal more miserable or do you actually care about the innocuous defined term you are fighting so hard for? Let’s all be cool.

If it's so innocuous, why is opposing counsel fighting me on it? Takes two to tango

Because the clients I work for like it when I’m nasty. Nasty behavior exists in our profession for the same reasons people love trash reality TV. Clients love the bare knuckle stuff because human’s like to feel superior to other humans for some reason.

Teaching has taken over so much. I’m a wife and mother and still have a home life, but there is nothing outside of work and home. I have no friends, no other activities, no escape. Covid restrictions do not help. I know it’s not healthy to only focus on everyone else, but I’m not sure what to do about it. I have only sporadic time opportunities and I don’t even know what I enjoy doing anymore. When trying to do other stuff I can’t turn off mom or teacher brain.

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that firms require a minimum daily time entry? For example, my firm requires us to bill 6 hours a day, whether or not it’s billable work, we have to have a minimum of 6.0 in our time entry system every day or we get flagged. If we’re on vacation we have to pre-bill 6.0 a day. Why the hell do firms do this???

Ok let’s do a prediction game for tomorrow’s DPW raise. Here’s my guess:

1st yr 215 -> +2.5 -> 217.5
2nd yr 225 -> +2.5 -> 227.5
3rd yr 250-> +5 -> 255
4th yr 285-> +5 -> 290
5th yr 325-> +5 -> 330
6th yr 350-> +5 -> 355
7th yr 370-> +7.5 -> 377.5
8th yr 385-> +10 -> 395

AND spring/fall/winter special bonuses in the same amount as that of last year’s.

Hi boys & girls!

Joined a big firm (Big4) not long a go and starting to feel like I got a good grip on my current work.

I've always been very technical, so I think that the only thing I am missing now is making sales. (I really wanna make partner)

Can any seasoned lawyer share tips and materials (i.e. books) which can help?

Would it be a good idea to join a Social Club where potential clients spend time? (gym/tennis/paddel/events)

Any advice welcome!
