You should be able to pick up your child and sort your family out for a couple hours in the early evening. Block off your calendar and make it known that this is not a time when you are available. Be firm but be sure you’re on top of your game. I have found that people tend to care a lot less than you’d think.
Yes, what fjorge said. Set the boundaries with your team early and let them know you’re obviously available when you’re home like you always are. I’m in the same boat and it’s really no issue as long as you’re available
The biggest thing I have learned being a (single) mom in this industry is to clearly set expectations and boundaries with your team upfront, then stick to them. Most of the time, people understand you have a family. Most of the time, it is our own guilt and fear that make us think we can't do both or we have to be over available for work. Let your team know family obligations and times you are available outside of that and you should be alright!
Can you pick back up the work once you leave? Like at 7? It could be a bad fit, so it’s potentially worth your while to look into what the rules are about maternity - if you tell them, does that now secure your job or are you still at will? If you’re secured, id tell them straight away. If you're not, It comes back to if you can pick up the work later at night.
Yes, I'm able to pick back up around 730/8 which I do on my other accounts. This is a new team so not sure about their flexibility.
As a Jr team member it’s my opinion that you need to be upfront with your team about your time obligations. Teams are unlikely to structure their workflow around the avails of an AE. Perhaps it’s not a big deal but it’s worth having an upfront conversation about the realities ahead of time . Worse thing you’d want is to be seen as unreliable by a time that never truly understood your personal schedule.
I concur with fjorge as well!! I’m not a mom, but I really firmly believe anyone can do their job their way and be amazing at it!! Dedication and communication do wonderful things. Proving yourself doesn’t have to feel competitive as it sometimes does. But showing people how you work and how good you are at it will make this possible Coming through for people/coworkers/clients is far more important than the semantics of it all
I have a 4yo and have worked my career northward in that time. It's about being clear about what you can and can't do. But also being willing to make sure it all gets done. You can be a mom and a professional, it's not easy, but it's doable.
Also helps when others on the team have kids. If they don't, it may be more of an uphill battle.
I’m sure if you’re rotating accounts they took that into consideration when deciding the right casting, no?
