Don't do Soma. All the new people (myself included) get sucked into a Soma building for the first year because they're all high rises with good amenities. But you'll soon realize that the neighborhood sucks and has no personality.
Depends. If you're single then Nob Hill, North Beach, Mission. If with +1, then Castro, Noe Valley, Inner Richmond, Pac Heights
Tenderloin
All the frat boys live in the Marina.
LOWER HAIGHT. Grimy and full of wonderful characters 💓
Whatever you can afford.
I actually like living in soma and I am in one of the new high rises. Soma is new therefore doesn't look like a South American slum like the rest of sf. Amenities are nice and location is great for projects in the east bay and South Bay.
Rest of SF is a South American slum? Dude you haven't lived
If youre easily impressed by a generic, characterless high-rise neighborhood then SOMA is for you. But there are far cheaper cities where you can experience that
SoMa, Nob Hill, South Beach, North beach.
I'd say nob or Russian hill. If you know you'll be traveling down to the South Bay a lot, consider Hayes valley or even mission (but make sure to choose a nice part).
Honestly depends on what you want. Potrero is super underrated, mission is hit or miss but cheaper, the rest of what ppl said are kinda the fratty white neighborhoods. Nothing wrong with that bc they're great! LPac heights is good 2!
I have to agree with SC1 . SOMA is boring new and has no San Francisco vibes
I like haight ashburry and castro
I actually like the marina. As a girl I feel safe walking around the area and there are a ton of good restaurants/gyms, you're close to the water/golden gate bridge/presidio. But yeah it's super fratty and everyone in the city loves to hate on it. Also the mission is NOT cheaper, rents are comparable to Pac heights/Russian hill/Hayes valley/marina if you're looking at the nice parts. It's really trendy and a ton of people who work in the South Bay live there because it's the easiest commute from the city.
