Getting Big 4 experience has been invaluable experience. You are consistently engaged with large/medium companies and people who have industry experience and business process knowledge.

Deloitte would definitely pay that at SC level. I would say that both a boutique and Deloitte may pigeonhole you. I heard from my peers that if you demonstrate you can do something well at Deloitte, they'll tend to stick you in doing that. If you don't want to do OCM work, I'm not sure this would be a good choice. However at a boutique, because of the limited offerings, you're very likely to be pigeonholed at them too. I would go to the Big4 for the experience and brand; if you dont like it, you could always leave to a boutique firm. It's a lot harder the other way around.

I would go big 4 for a couple of reasons. One is that the pay maybe better. Two is the brand is known. Three you will round out your skills there, better then a boutique. And lastly if you go to the smaller firm and then decide to go big 4, be prepared to be reduced a level or two. But disregard all of this if it’s a firm is A&M, AP or something that’s very specialized.

I would think they have a robust training program for people that want to use it. And I worked smaller firms for years: lead major accounts, ran multi-million dollar programs and when I moved over to a larger firm they lowballed me by pay and level. So I ended up working with some weak SM’s. I would never take a reduction in pay or level after that.

Best of luck! I’m also interviewing with Deloitte. We are severely underpaid (I’m in the Academy)

like

That is awesome. Best of luck. You deserve better pay!

Both firms are moving fast, and Deloitte is surprising me with how quickly they scheduled the interview. I need advice both on best direction to go, and how to possibly ask the boutique firm for time to decide on the offer, because the Deloitte process won’t be over. I would be joining Deloitte’s OCM practice. I have some experience in the area, and I don’t mind doing it, but the move to Deloitte would almost entirely be for the name. Is going to Deloitte (assuming I get an offer) worth it just for the name? It would be a step down in level of responsibility I currently have at a smaller firm. I’m aiming for 126-133k at the smaller firm. Would Deloitte pay as much? I have over 5 years of experience, no business degree.

How do I negotiate timing of the boutique firm’s offer? I want to finish the Deloitte interview process and at least have a chance to assess them myself and see if I even pass the interviews. If the boutique is meeting with me Tuesday with an offer, how long can I reasonably ask for to decide whether I will accept their offer? Either way I want to leave NH. I don’t want to miss an opportunity to get a pay bump. Pretty sure I’m very underpaid at 96k

I would say you probably have a week if you don’t negotiate. If you do negotiate after getting their offer...two weeks or so would be my guess

Advice please! I'm scheduled to roll off my current (surge) project at the end of this month. The project is heavy in manual government processes, but my manager is offering to let me lead a workstream because our scope has grown so much and the client needs our help. However, there's another big, super relevant project where I'd get project experience doing analytics, but I likely wouldn't get ownership over anything. Do I extend my current project or try to roll onto the new one?

I'm grounded cause my husband traveled. Under a new order, returning travelers must quarantine 10 days and they should isolate from others in the household, even wear masks at home. Husband is about to return from a work trip, & he's not on board. So to stay "clean" and able to go out myself, I plan to sleep in my home office for HIS quarantine, with my air purifier on, and mask up if we are in the same room. Ridiculously inconvenient, but I do not feel it's ethical to risk infecting others.
