5/20/22 check in! How’s everyone’s Friday going?
A big day for equality. Hopefully this will lead to more men feeling comfortable enough to share their stories of abuse.
And further down the line, hopefully this will be the first step towards the removal of this carefully constructed narrative by feminist groups that domestic abuse is a gendered issue.

Any references from Avegen Health?
Target startups with lots of google alumni. Place a ton of emphasis on your engineering work and get referrals to every place you apply.
Why are you wanting to leave sales engineering? Curious because I’m interested in transitioning into it.
Yep. And google does put effort to not make it so but slime finds a way.
I have a friend who made a similar transition. He found a mentor that was willing to work with him and provide consistent feedback. I think that helped accelerate his career by at least 2-3 years. If you know someone like that def take advantage of it.
I think A1 makes a really good point about targeting startups with alumni. Also worth reaching out/putting out feelers on LinkedIn to see if anyone has a project you can get involved in to build out your experience a bit more
Update: got an intro call with my favorite enterprise company!!!!
I did it, it’s very possible. You’ll really need to sell yourself as some who was a “product guardian” rather than sales focused. I think my pricing and ROI model creation helped since that was an immediate need of the team that I joined.
Why PM? I’ve found a lot of sales engineers to make great PMMs - closer to the customer, established understanding of pain points, etc.
There’s a massive shortage of PMMs that have breadth of what a sales/marketing GTM product release looks like.
This is something I haven’t looked at closely but I will now. PM because of decent salary and the proximity to engineering.
Hey folks, I’ve been a sales engineer at google for a while and I want to transition to product. Doing so at google is not the optimal option as it sets my career back by two-ish years. I was a sole engineer at a small company before google so I have experience building products from scratch and maintaining it, but not at any significant scale. What are some good strategies for me to make this transition? I have a one year horizon for o transfer. Any projects/courses etc that will help me?
