I just did a paper on this last term. There is SO much trauma for our kiddos. I read that studies right now don’t show support for the correlation between trauma in their environments and dysregulation in the classroom. I see the correlation every day. I think it IS important to know about our students lives, but the best way to do that is to build a trusting relationship with your students, because we all know, if we talk to the parents or guardians, everything is peachy and normal. To them, it might be, but we know better.

I’m not sure what studies you are referring to, but I have many research articles/reports that confirm a strong correlation between trauma and dysregulated emotions and behavior, trauma and cognitive delays, trauma and declining health. The science behind this is profound.
We all need to understand trauma especially how trauma presents itself in our kids and why - we owe it to them and ourselves.
