I once had a three-way make-out with 2 self purported witches in passing on bourbon street. That appealed to younger me somehow. Now, I’d seek out what they call barbecue shrimp- though not cooked on a grill, and maybe ride a riverboat with a belly full of French doughnuts.
Going on a swamp tour, doing a walking tour around the French Quarter, walking around Audubon Park if you’re near there, and the WWII museum is good too. The French Quarter also has lots of art galleries and antique stores.
Magazine street in Uptown is also solid for shopping/antique stores.
Feel obligated to say food stuff because I’m from NOLA haha so here’s my favorites for anybody else interested:
- Beignets: New Orleans Coffee & Beignet Co
- Po Boys: Parkway Tavern (normally has long lines) or Guy’s (more locals)
- Short list of restaurants: Atchafalaya, Brennan’s, Restaurant R’evolution, Arnaud’s, Upperline

Honestly New Orleans is not really a city of activities, you just spend your time walking, exploring, shopping, going from bar to bar (not in a wasted kind of way, just leisurely stopping for a beer whenever you want). Lived there for 4 years and go back annually and the only thing I plan are my restaurant reservations lol, everything else is just kind of hanging out in the city
Rising Star
Make time to buy new shoes because you’ll need to burn the pair you walk around NOLA in.
Also, check out freetoursbyfoot.com for walking tours. I would take the fq tour and the garden district tour to understand Nola history.
Gondola?
Drinking
Sculpture garden in City Park is excellent. Beer gardens all over the city (not fq) are fun. Julia Street galleries are good.
