To be frank, it honestly probably isn’t a great time to travel, but what’s done is done. You personally are likely fine being vaccinated, but the rest of the world is not as lucky and things are starting to shut down again, countries are putting in new restrictions, etc. You may not have quite the vacation you planned if new shut downs are imposed but at least it’ll still be warm and a beach (assuming islands).
I could have sworn I read somewhere that once you’re getting your second dose you’re about 80% protected or something like that. Where are you traveling from, were vaccine offerings limited or something?
I’m in Canada and this is when many of us got our second vaccine. I have Pfizer. My concern isn’t so much about getting sick, it’s just the stress of negotiating pandemic travel by myself.
When are you going to Greece?
Totally normal for you to be a little anxious.
You’re traveling from Canada so naturally your mindset is super conservative towards Covid-19. The rest of the world is willing to take a couple more risks to return to normalcy. I really believe once you are outside of the country you will feel better, it’s a little bit of a mental game.
Regarding traveling right now, it’s not the “best time”, but it is a great time to travel. I believe Greece will work hard to make sure the country is safe for tourism during the summer since they are so dependent on tourism.
There’s not a lot of tourists right now so you get more attention in the services offered to you now. I’m in Italy right now and the US tourists have started to make there way back (people are traveling). The tours guides are grateful to have tourists again and it’s just a great feeling to see the sights you’ve always wanted to see with 1/3 of the people who would have been there had you travelled two years ago.
Thanks M2 - this is really helpful and good to know! It sounds like a (weirdly) good time to travel, particularly because it’s usually so crowded in the summer. We will be doing Rome -> Venice -> Lake Como -> Lucerne.
Greece is very much an “outdoor” country. And minimal Covid restrictions are needed outside. I think you will feel at ease once you are eating on a patio with a beautiful view somewhere! And if you are going to the islands there are lots of quiet spots without big crowds
I just got back from Greece and there were no restrictions. Wear a mask on Ferry, but otherwise it was very easy.
They weren’t doing inside dining when I was there but every restaurant had outdoor space and there were no waits to sit.
Enjoy!
