True or False: If a partner sends perfect emails (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), they ain’t really a boss. In other words, more short hand = more of a boss.

False. If they’re a boss, then they’re rolling deep in originations, equity, and client management emails (that you’re not cc’ed on)… they’re not so overwhelmed in producing work product/hours so there’s less obligatory shorthand for time saving purposes.

This has no real bearing on whether they are a “boss” or not.

I’m with C1, I don’t really see what you mean OP. Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see how a lack of typos makes you less of a boss?

A partner emailed me today that a provision in an employment agreement wasn't predicated on receiving "Versace". (It took me a while, but I think he meant severance.)

Decidedly not a boss.

False.

True. Also more ellipses…more of a boss…

Does crying at work make you come across as weak or sensitive?

I’m in Deloitte human capital and want to eventually (but sooner rather than later) move to industry doing internal talent/people stuff. My coach recommended getting SPHR or equivalent. Thoughts?

Hi! I'm one of the 2 women on the engineering team of the tech scale-up I work at. I'm used to the masculine environment but I'm starting to notice more and more borderline sexist comments and "jokes" (the kind that are not directly targeted at anyone, but very salacious jokes).
It makes me uncomfortable sometimes, and although I'm far from being uptight, I'm convinced that it's not healthy for our culture. I'd like to share with leadership, how should I approach the topic? Thanks 🙂

This is a great country. My parents immigrated here in the early 70's with little money and could barely speak the language. They found work and built a beachhead. My mother sponsored the immigration of 3 of her siblings, who brought their spouses and children. These 9 cousins of mine today have 2-3 children each, as do my sister and I, and so I have ~35 family members here, all of whom are solidly middle class. I say this not to minimize the struggles of others, only to point out (cont)

Hi! I am currently enrolled in a master's program in Health Informatics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and I am looking for new opportunities. I am currently employed as a Development Coordinator at a large non-profit hospital, where I am responsible for fundraising event logistics as well as assisting with fundraising, data analysis, and contract management. I would like to pursue a career that is more in line with my degree. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Thank you!

How are non-market (comp) Amlaw100-200 firms going to survive the associate salary hikes? I’m at an Amlaw100+ firm and our comp is about 25% under the new market for junior/midlevel and up to 40% under for seniors. We have tons of work and NO associates left to do it. Many (if not most) associates have jumped to market firms and no laterals to replace them. How will this place survive with no foreseeable associates and (allegedly) no plans for raises?

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. I thought the offer was reasonable, come in at a 2nd year level, but with the uncertainty of the times I played it safe. Now I regret it. What avenues do I have, if any, to jump into big law from a small firm?

For those in the US market, what are your thoughts on King & Spalding vs. Morgan Lewis. I am not in the US now but would be looking to return to the States eventually (probably in 2 to 4 years) so want to know what people in the US think of each in terms of future opportunities that lateraling to K&S or ML would provide. Both are corporate M&A roles.
