We are buying a house and my knee jerk response was to look at a 30 year fixed mortgage (because that’s what I’ve always done). I realized last night that a 30 year mortgage might outlast me. Having a bit of an existential crisis now.

If you had 100k at 2% where would you invest it and why?

I invested 20K a month ago with Merrill into a moderate portfolio and I’m down 2K - is this normal. I mean I know it’s normal but shall I add more or just chill… lol anyone uses Merrill and saw success after 5 years? Thinking to work with others if their strategy is slow. Comment below :)

What would you do? I was laid off and now have two directions:
1) Back to old job in industry with security and knowing what I’m getting/how to do the job well/job security but $15k reduction in salary plus nominal API still working 60+ hrs a week...
2) Consulting again at big 4 but don’t know team and threat of unpredictability/more layoffs but $25k increase in salary.
Frankly feeling torn. Also, yes, I realize how great it is to have options these days.

Should we buy a new property?
Context: newly engaged(27F & 30 M) we each own a house 1400 sqft(3 bed 2 ba $280 K bought 2021 @ $232K) & (4bed 2 ba $325 K bought 2020 @ $246 K) both at 3.0 interest rate.

Feeling dumb after calling Fidelity... I just found out that although my employer say they match my desired 401k contribution up to 6%, they actually contribute 50 cents of the dollar amount that I am contribute.

When you transfer stocks from one broker to another do you incur fees and lose money on the difference..? Is it essentially you sell it from one broker and buy it from another broker? I need to exit from a broker due to independence requirements. Should I just sell everything? Need advice
