Banff skiing is very much EH. I don’t know how good you are but sunshine village was boring af. There was some steep stuff you could work to get to but a lot of work for little reward. Lake Louise was a lot better but nothing crazy.
That being said, Banff is unreal gorgeous and the town is a blast. There’s always stuff going on all winter and the nightlife is awesome. I could not recommend Banff more highly than I do. It just depends on how much you value skiing vs the overall experience. One thing to consider is flying into Calgary and doing time in Banff, Revelstoke, Kamloops, etc and getting a lot of fun skiing in. Then you could fly out of Vancouver but obviously that gets more expensive but I’ve done all those and it was a blast. More than happy to answer anything else about banff. Not much value to add for Alaska though
I was in Alyeska this summer and it looked absolutely amazing, but there's really nothing else to do, and no real town to speak of. The resort lodge was nice but unremarkable. Never been to Banff but I'd take a shot in the dark and prefer to go there.
Sunshine is one of my favourite places to ski!!! Would highly recommend. Lake Louise also has some amazing back bowls but those are very snow dependant. Honestly both are awesome ski resorts. Would recommend staying downtown Banff and then there is a city bus that will take you to/from the mountains. Banff has some great restaurants (Grizzley fondue is touristy but a must) including obviously some good Alberta steakhouses. Due to the city bus you really do not need a car in Banff, from the Calgary airport you can take a shuttle! Also, depending when and for how many days you’re going, might be worth looking into the IKON pass, it includes Sunshine & Lake Louise
You could easily spend a few days exploring Revelstoke - heli skiing is also offered based there. Banff or Lake Louise are nice halfway points to stay a night or two but the skiing is not even close to what you get in British Columbia. Highly recommend arranging the trip so you’re driving during the day. Scenery is beautiful and roads can be treacherous
2nd the roads. Almost wrecked getting into revelstoke at sunset. I’d also blame myself rubber necking because it was so beautiful and not paying attention to the road
