The last best sleep I got was my epidural at 3 cm. Went from 3 to 6 cm while napping. Glorious. 10/10 would do again.

Thank you everyone!! This was literally life changing!! I did end up getting the epidural and was able to last the second half and our little boy was a born healthy four hours later vaginally!
New found respect to everyone who does this without medication!đ
Congrats on your baby! I'm glad you got the labor experience you wanted.

Like you are at 5cm now?! I got mine around 8 or 9 and wish I got it sooner. The transition was reallyyy tough and I was en route to the hospital at the time (arrived at 7cm next time they checked after epidural I was 10.

But if youâre already there you can wait and see!
Just get it. Pretty much all second time mums get it as soon as available. Is there really a benefit to feeling the pain of birth? For me, I got it later for my first and had much less energy to push after suffering those early contractions.
Itâs also not statistically supported, as second time deliveries are less likely to be with epidurals:
Iâm 0/2 in getting my âworlds greatest momâ trophy for having an unmedicated birth đ¤ˇđźââď¸ maybe next time. jk of course. Gimme all the drugs
OP do you have a baby yet? Hope everything went well.

If you know you want to get an epidural, get it as soon as you can. What is the benefit of waiting if you already plan to get one? My second labor happened really fast, and I progressed very quickly. I only had the epidural for 2 of the 10 hours I was in labor but it made a huge difference for me being able to push. Because I had those two hours to ârecoverâ mentally from the first eight, I had so much more strength to push. Pushing was easy, relatively, because I was mentally ready to work as hard as possible to push Baby out. With the contractions, mentally I was just miserable, and physically too!
I got mine at 3.5 because I was getting contractions ever 3ish minutes and holy crap they hurt all I could do was yell and swear through them.... I actually started progress faster (epidural at midnight, baby out at 7am) once I was able to relax.
Talk to the dr and get their advice for timing. If you get it too soon it can wear off by the end but if you get it too late it is hard to push bc you canât feel anything. Good luck!
You might be thinking of a spinal block - an epidural can provide pain relief for as long as the catheter is in place and medication is flowing. You might, however, choose to turn it down/off to push.
If youâre feeling good keep chugging without one! You have plenty of time to change your mind assuming you arenât progressing super fast.
I personally had a âgoalâ to not get one until I was at least 6cms with my first. I got to the hospital 6cms dilated after 30 hours of labor and decided to get one then. No regrets, but I am curious how it would have gone down if I had waited given I was managing contractions very well at that point.
I think I got mine around 6cm. Last few contractions before were pretty horrible. Would recommend getting it soon!
