Trying to figure out how to manage health issues and work balance. I just recently found out I might have herpes (waiting for the test results to come back) and I have been very and feeling like my life is over especially because it came from being cheated on and struggling with prioritizing my bandwidth and not knowing how to communicate it with my team. Due to stigmas around something as common as herpes I cannot comfortably share that with my team.

Just tell them you need some time off because of some personal issues and you absolutely do not have to explain to anyone.

Agree, take the time off. I think FCB has unlimited PTO, right? Tell HR you’re dealing with some health issues.

This is unrelated to work, but I have several friends who were diagnosed w HSV2 and at the time felt like life was over. Within about 6 months they all realized it’s not a big deal, 90%ish of the population has HSV, and most people don’t care about it. I am so sorry it came from cheating, but you’re going to be okay, your sex life (and normal life) aren’t over, and most people genuinely do not care about it once you disclose. 💕

like

Take the time. You’re allowed to reorg your priorities for a minute.

like

1. I’m so sorry you are having to deal with this at all. But I hope it gives you comfort knowing you are not alone in dealing with such an experience/health issues that cause impact. 2. You do not have to explain anything to anyone. Take PTO to prioritize you and your mental health in order to process want could be your new normal.

Up to a week sick without a doctors note and you do not have to give a reason. Any more and your doctor can write a note for stress, give it straight to HR.

like

So sorry you have to deal with this. No one should ever know the details of any illness. I am a Brit. Don’t get this over sharing need. Legally you are protected. Take the time off you need. And if you need to extend to on short term disability (generally more than 2 weeks). Doctors are definitely keen to support mental wellness so you can find a doctor to support you with that I am confident. A week may be enough but take the time you need. And regarding herpes, as others have said, the reason you got it is the shit. That relationship needs to be over and out. But your good health is not over. Great pharmaceutical intervention to keep you managing your life as always. Take a little time to deal with this especially your mental wellness so you can face your team with a smile and do your best work with them. Good luck.

You don’t have to explain to anyone for a short time leave. If you need to take longer, FCB has a 3rd party to evaluate. We have someone on the team took 9 months off and no one knew what happened to her.

Recently made the jump from mostly insurance defense work where my average billable rate was around $225/hr. Now the average billable rate is probably about $450/hr. Would I be able to get away with my insurance defense billing practices. I was averaging about 2800/yr before. Would that be cool in big law?
