Commute from home and price should hold larger sway over gym cleanliness. Maybe that’s just personal preference though. You go to the gym to get sweaty and as long as the equipment is available and is in good shape cleanliness is secondary
3 separarte spikes of athlete’s foot later...
I can tap dance at equinox barefoot. That’s how clean it is.
Another way to view it is premium. You’re going to pay something no matter what, so are the features of Equinox worth the extra money. For me they are, especially since I have the all gym option - I can workout (or zen out, or just take a eucalyptus scented piss) anywhere in the city

But he didn't give you the keyboard shortcuts... Alt WVG
Number of squat racks
How about the type and quantity of equipment available? How often do you see “out of order” or “under maintenance “ signs on equipment?
I don’t have any input other than to say that I love this decision making process you’re using
Thanks. I would like to say I'm a quant guy, so figured I'd put some science into the decision making process.
I’d bump the value of commuting a little higher. Convenience can play a huge factor in if you even go or not on a particular day
number of hot girls/guys?
Be honest. You just played with the intangibles to get to the result you wanted in your heart — Equinox. This, like all similar models, is just a charade.
Valid point with my original post, but not with new weight distribution. I've posted it as a response in other comments in here.
Equinox is overpriced - but I love it, and I even go twice a day when I can. It’s especially more economical since it includes classes, if you take advantage of those. Marginal upside depends on your expected usage.
Do you receive any kind of corporate discounts or subsidies? That also plays a role.
It seems like you are of the mind that you want to try equinox and if you don't and save money you will be unhappy. Humans just have learn from experience. Blink with a fresh pair of shower shoes every month would run you 50-60 maybe 80. You can get athletes foot from a "spa" like shower. They don't clean it after every use.
Third vote for weighing the commute higher!
But what would you sacrifice? I rebalanced my weights.
People needing spreadsheet like this to drive decision makes me a bit nauseous
Haha fair enough. In reality though you probably unconsciously go through the same process when you have multiple options to choose from
Blink and NYSC should have different ratings for price? Isn’t NYSC around $50 and blink $25
Valid points. I've adjusted accordingly
Equinox is so worth it imo. The price is steep but worth it. Joined two years ago and it’s motivated me to go at least 4 times a week (I was terrible at getting myself to go work out before)
Truth.
Good thing you are not worried about little stuff like equipment
Yeah. I lump that into the intangibles category
The biggest driver is proximity. Go to the gym you’re closest to. I work out 7d/week and am amazingly fit, six-pack and all, but proximity was the only driver (on your list) that dictated where I went. Good effort trying to make this more complex than it is in teal life though 😉
Good i checked this message. I wud agree with this criteria. As long as there is equipment you need, you are good.
Hands down LIFE TIME
That sucks OP, but hey 🤷🏾♂️
How many consultants does it take to join a gym?
Another way to think about this is assigning a dollar value to each driver — i.e., how much $ are you willing to pay per month for a cleaner gym?
Shouldn’t the price be just a factor or multiple of your score on other parameters? I would have calculated the score due to other parameters and than used price as a deciding factor. You are paying high price because of all the good things.
