Also, I am in a L&E boutique with international presence. Target is 1800, bonuses and salary increase dependent on hitting target (so no bonus or base increase if you fail to hit target….) No retention or COVID Bonuses. Trying to determine just how much we are getting screwed for lack of a better word.
Montreal here - not seven sisters firm but large international firm with strong Canadian presence. 1700 target nationwide. No set bonus structure (discretionary) - but we did get retention bonuses in two instalments. Jury is still out on salaries, but we did get an increase recently (like a lot of firms IMU).

Thanks for the info! What did the retention bonus look like?
Halifax (Not saying names because Halifax is too small - one of the "big 3"). Target is 1600 (+200 nonbillable). Bonus is discretionary once you hit target, no bonus if you don't hit. We did get one special bonus in this year. Compensation is lockstep for the first couple of years, discretionary based on performance beyond that.

That makes sense (as opposed to a flat out no if target isn’t met). I mean granted performance and willingness needs to be there but sometimes the hour requirement falls out of your control! Appreciate the insight!
