I was asked to coordinate with another associate on reviewing a meet and confer and doc production. Hi! I just passed the bar and I’m passionate to become an environmental attorney. The problem is I don’t have much experience because I took an accelerated edu track where I was still taking classes in the summers instead of getting experience. I’ve been focusing on applying to enviro positions in nonprofits and fed/state governments. Is this hopeless? Is it possible to start in an enviro attorney position straight after law school? I have practiced law for several years and still struggle with the feast-or-famine nature of my practice. (Sudden rush of client outreach, many emergencies, then … nothing). A famine week might be 3-4 billable hours/day. My practice area does not have a predictable annual cycle, like “year end” or “tax day.” Any tips from other attorneys for how to recognize, predict, and/or even out these periods?

My firm will start tracking the billing of associates as a group. My firm’s reasoning: ensure consistent monthly billing; and will provide new financial incentives to the group for meeting certain billing milestones. Has anyone worked at a firm that tracked associates hours as a whole group?

I’m pretty sure I’m about to get an offer from a new firm and will be leaving my current firm before the end of the year. In the meantime my current firm has been dumping more work on me for things that are expected to close before Dec. 31 (mostly b/c my firm keeps losing more and more associates each month). I feel bad saying yes to the work when I’m likely leaving soon, but I don’t want to tip my firm off before giving my official notice. Any advice?
