I went to Masai Mara for 4 days and it was awesome.
Africa Travel Resource. They work with whatever budget and give you an awesome beautiful itinerary.
My family used Abercrombie and Kent and we loved it. Budget was ~50-55k for 5 people

I’ve done several. It’s pretty much impossible to plan yourself - you need to hire an agency that specializes in this. What is your budget per person excluding international flights? I would have this in mind before speaking with agencies. Costs can soar quickly...like $10-$15k per person for something very nice. If you’re OK with spending a good chunk of change per person, I highly recommend Explore Inc. They are based in Colorado but have some numerous awards and emphasize sustainability. We’ve done 2 magical safaris to Tanzania and one to Botswana and Zimbabwe through them.
We’re fine with expensive. Do you think it is beneficial contacting an agency with no clue rather than having a rough idea of parks and time of year then choosing an agency or tour group?

I think it’s ok to have an exploratory chat but I would try and think through a couple things. 1) do you want to do something like go to Zanzibar or Cape Town as a side trip? Or do you want safari to be the sole focus? 2) do you want to have a more private trip or do you want to be in a small group. (I recommend private if cost doesn’t matter.) 3) do you want to only focus on animals or do you want some cultural activities sprinkled throughout? 4) how much do you want to move locations? Lots of safaris have you move to different luxury camps every couple of nights so you can see new terrain / animals. I think it’s worth it, but are you ok with being on the go a lot? 5) how luxurious do you want / need? You can also do a mix. We did a couple nights camping for example to really get close to the animals and then did luxury for the rest of the time. 6) time of year is important since it will dictate what’s best for you to see, so it’s good you have that nailed down. Feel free to DM if you have questions!
I used Lion World Travel and did Cape Town for part of it and then stayed at the Shamwari game reserve and had an incredible experience. We went in July and saw all the animals we were hoping to.
Also want to do the gorilla trekking but that is so different than the rest and i’m not sure it could be easily combined with a safari??
Kruger Park is gorgeous and we did Zambia/Zimbabwe & Victoria Falls (absolutely do the Victoria Falls hotel!) in that same trip if you’re looking to not just do a safari.
Did a budget one and had a lot of fun. Obviously during low season and only one park but there’s money saving options too if you don’t want to go ball out.
All that said, everyone I know that did a baller trip loved it.
