I moved to Capital One after some years in NYC bank (CS), the WLB is superb, but the subsequent job changes (think 2-3 years out) can be difficult in DMV. The 4 NYC hires in my old team all moved back to NYC region within 2 years.

like

Again happy to chat more if you want to DM.

I’ve been here a year and love it. Amazing WLB on my team and seems that way from all the other teams I’ve talked to. What line of work are you in?

Oh gosh I’ve had several different sort of jobs in banking/finance. Analyst roles, Accounting, AR, AP. So def sticking with the financial area. Might try and get into regulatory/risk, project management. See they have a good amount of positions open especially in NY. In Tampa now but have been here my whole life. Want to relocate and actually live and experience something new so trying to get into the NY office. Or Phoenix or LA. Not sure where Cap One has they biggest locations.

I work at a Big Law firm on the West Coast and my firm is allowing me to work remotely in MN during the pandemic to be near family. After being here for the past four months, I would like to remain here even post pandemic. I am not looking to change jobs right now because I am so grateful to have a job during these times. Does anyone think that the industry will change to remote working long term? And if not, does anyone have an idea of what the law firm culture is like in MN? I’m a 3rd year.

A niche practice team from a smaller firm joined my firm recently (2 partners + 5-6 mid to senior associates, which in strict numbers is very small compared to our practice), and they’ve brought with them what I consider a very toxic culture. They’re abusive towards our juniors and disrespectful towards other deals’ priorities, which is incredibly offensive to many homegrown lawyers. I just don’t understand why if they lateraled over they aren’t even interested in adapting?

For 1-year-old kids, would daycare or nanny a better option? First time parents here.

We really like the social aspects of daycare, since we don’t have many friends with kids here and our family lives in Europe. However, sending the kid to school everyday can be inconvenient. We are willing to do that if our kid enjoys the social activities and learnings from daycare.

We find the good daycare can cost as much as full time nanny for 5 days / week, so cost may not be a huge differentiator here.
