Most “dream expenses” are out of hype. You put it on a pe distal because it seems like a forbidden fruit. Once you actually have the money to have it, it doesn’t really feel the void, and you move on the next out of reach trinket.
Yeah, I honestly agree. I thought it would be cooler than it actually is. Although I will not turn down a Ferrari in the future 😂
My husband has been dreaming of a watch for years and finally pulled the trigger a few weeks ago (only after receiving a VERY generous retention bonus) and he admitted to me that it didn’t feel as satisfying as he had anticipated. I think we’re both at a point where we’d rather put that money into experiences going forward.

I like watches for just that reason - looking at your phone for the time is distracting (risk of ending doing other things) and can look bad in the middle of a meeting.
Much easier to look at a watch.
Congratulations on purging yourself of all human desires for frivolous consumption and joining your FIRE comrades on a higher spiritual plane.
What was it? A super car? A boat?
Kind of my thoughts as well
Curious to hear that dream purchase as I am out of dreams these days. Came as a poor immigrant who could not even afford a $50 dollar purchase without thinking about necessities. Though am very greatful to America for these opportunities but somehow lost track and sold my soul to corporate.America.
Yup, priorities change and it’s great you can realize that. The disappointment is potentially more about losing that old dream than not getting the watch. Or at least I’ve felt so in similar situations.

If it’s a hype brand watch you can just get your money back when you sell it. So. No growth, but not much loss.

The immediate profit flips are a new thing, yes, but Rolexes have consistently have held their value in real terms and in the past 20 years have increased in real terms as well.
How expensive and how much do you make? I know it might not be relevant but still want to know.
